Beyonce photos raise Red Flags

A bit of an overreaction I think. To me blackface was the days of Al Jolsen singing Swanne River and Minstrel Shows. ( I watched Ken Burns Jazz series so thats were I learned that from). Does not look anything like a blackface to me.

Agreed. Beyonce,...while maybe emulating that makeup style; certainly looks nothing like blackface. I'm not sure I see too much outrage in that article though.

I never realized there was a name for that though; but I remember seeing blackface in a few Looney Tunes.

I don't know. If the person she is portraying (Fela Kuti) actually had dark skin like that, I dont see what the problem would be. I would think she was simply trying to look more like the real person. If Beyonce did it just to look generically more African, I could see that being a problem. I would like to see a pic of the real Ms. Kuti before I made any judgments.
