Surely you didn't think you were getting a $1700 TV for $10. |

years back, my buddy walked into a different retailers (rhymes with "beers") that had made the same mistake. it wasnt like a 1700 dollar tv for 10 bucks, but it was still absurdly cheap. he called some friends over to go buy up a bunch of them. apparently if you make a huge scene in a store they will act differently. as a consequence he is no longer welcome in that store, but he also has a new tv.
ps: samsung is the only way to go for lcd. good call. |

their store price match only applies to physical locations. around where i live frys electronics is the only other game in town (circuit city gone, as are the goodguys [which i really liked]). i went into the store with an internet offer and got laughed out of the store. then i bought the same tv online without tax (or shipping) for like 500 less. |

If they are gonna advertise something at that price they should have to stick with it," read one typical comment.
Lawyers have already been called. One disgruntled Best Buy shopper has even started a site, TenDollarHDTV.com, in an effort to rally his fellow shoppers to action.
| What in the hell is wrong with people?

Here is Best Buy fine print. Quote:
Errors on Our Site
Prices and availability of products and services are subject to change without notice. Errors will be corrected where discovered, and Best Buy reserves the right to revoke any stated offer and to correct any errors, inaccuracies or omissions including after an order has been submitted and whether or not the order has been confirmed and your credit card charged. If your credit card has already been charged for the purchase and your order is cancelled, Best Buy will issue a credit to your credit card account in the amount of the charge. Individual bank policies will dictate when this amount is credited to your account. If you are not fully satisfied with your purchase, you may return it in accordance with Best Buy’s Return Policy.
| Here is what is postulated at this tendollarHDTV site. Quote:
“The Best Buy Web site is created, operated and controlled by Best Buy in the State of Minnesota, United States of America. The laws of the State of Minnesota will govern the Legal Notices and Conditions of Use without giving effect to any principles or conflicts of laws.”
According to Minnesota Law:
“325F.67 FALSE STATEMENT IN ADVERTISEMENT.
Any person, firm, corporation, or association who, with intent to sell or in anywise dispose of merchandise, securities, service, or anything offered by such person, firm, corporation, or association, directly or indirectly, to the public, for sale or distribution, or with intent to increase the consumption thereof, or to induce the public in any manner to enter into any obligation relating thereto, or to acquire title thereto, or any interest therein, makes, publishes, disseminates, circulates, or places before the public, or causes, directly or indirectly, to be made, published, disseminated, circulated, or placed before the public, in this state, in a newspaper or other publication, or in the form of a book, notice, handbill, poster, bill, label, price tag, circular, pamphlet, program, or letter, or over any radio or television station, or in any other way, an advertisement of any sort regarding merchandise, securities, service, or anything so offered to the public, for use, consumption, purchase, or sale, which advertisement contains any material assertion, representation, or statement of fact which is untrue, deceptive, or misleading, shall, whether or not pecuniary or other specific damage to any person occurs as a direct result thereof, be guilty of a misdemeanor, and any such act is declared to be a public nuisance and may be enjoined as such.
The duty of a strict observance and enforcement of this law and prosecution for any violation thereof is hereby expressly imposed upon the attorney general, and it shall be the duty of the county attorney of any county wherein a violation of this section shall have occurred, upon complaint being made, to prosecute any person violating any of the provisions of this section.”
So, the law explicitly states that “whether or not pecuniary or other specific damage to any person occurs”…”any such act is declared to be a public nuisance”…
The law requires the attorney general to “prosecute any person violating any of the provisions of this section” simply because the false ad was a public nuisance.
However, the law requires this “upon complaint being made”.
| Nowhere do they make mention of error in price. I suck at deciphering legal jargon so perhaps someone can translate all that for us.
That said; this smells like a get rich quick scheme. Someone didn't get their material possessions at too good to be true low low prices and know they want to move forward on a frivolous lawsuit. Meanwhile true con men aren't even prosecuted.

I have little tolerance for these people...

One reason for the fine print is that for a hacker it's relatively easy to change the prices (don't ask me how I know ).
If that hacker happens to be a mistreated employee of the company, the dirty deed got just way easier.
Sometimes it doesn't even require any hacking skills to speak of.
Can't blame anyone for trying, I'd probably done the same, but whining about it is beyond words.
