Douglas Adams should have used octopi as his alien species living among us instead of dolphins. Octopi are way more believable in that role. Then again I guess that would have changed one of the titles of his books - "So Long, and Thanks for All the Coconuts!"

There are 3 correct plural for "octopus".
"octopusses" is indeed one of them.
"octopi" is another, and indeed, the one most of us learned as "correct" in school.

Bonus points to whomever knows the third. Extra bonus if you didn't have to google it.

One of the coolest diving experiences I had was while diving on the Big Island of Hawaii. We found a playful octopus that was letting us pet it. At one point the octopus wrapped itself around my bicep and was just relaxing there. We had significant eye to eye contact and I swear it was just like looking into the eyes of my dog. It was really cool. I felt an intelligence there.

Intelligence or love there Maki? Wrapped itself around your bicep? Significant eye to eye contact? I think their is an octopus in Hawaii waiting for it's dream boy to come back.

I'm not to proud to try to figure out a way to tap an octopus. I could eat it afterwards too.
