It's been a long time since I really looked for a cool table top game to play with friends or family. The need/want has returned. A bit of complexity is always welcome.
I've been told to try Power Grid, which I just might if I can get my hands on it.
Board game aficionados, what is your poison?

Other suggestions:
Carcassonne
Ticket to Ride
Dominion
Settlers of Catan

Inns & Cathedrals is apparently boring. I've heard the Tower expansion is fun.
I've order Samerkand from Queen Games (arrives today): http://www.queen-games.de/index.php?id=20285----2
I'll let you know what we think. This company's other new game, Fresco won game of the year in Germany this year. That's usually the sign of a great game.

Any college dorm worth its salt has to have some forms of entertainment that cater to both sexes and can be played liberally greased. I may well look into some of the others on this list as well.
Any worth a recommendation?

My wife used to work in R&D at Milton Bradley, so we've got lots of MB games she worked on. There are even a couple games that I wrote play material for when her group determined that they need someone with an oddball and pun-oriented sense of humor to generate it. |

My friend also had a game called 1960 or something...simulated the presidential race between Kennedy and Nixon. It was a little complex at first, but once we made it through a round or two, things fell into place. A lot of strategy in that game.

Axis & Allies is my all time favorite, but I never get time to play it anymore. My brother and I once had a game going for about a week, playing daily, few hours at a time. Good times those were.
