I like it alot. It seems to be coming along a little slow but I think its the right choice for something that will surely have more than a couple of seasons.
I just hate when a great show goes too balls out and then has to either run out of steam or get ridiculous just to keep up the pace.

But..there is no interesting story. And way too much sex. And the episodes are too long.

Opening theme by Galaxie 500 = Win.

This weekend's episode didn't knock me out. I can do with less semi-naked Buscemi. With "Mad Men" done for the season, I'm less compelled to tune in.

Best line of the series so far, delivered by Nucky (episode 3, I think): "What does 'motherf*cker' mean?"

I've been enjoying it. Not to sound like a prude, but I do think they might be going a little bit overboard with the gratuitous sex and nudity. IMO, the story lines are interesting enough to stand on their own; but since it's HBO, I guess they feel they have an obligation to throw a bunch in.

I could never stand Steve Buschemi's character on The Sopranos, but I find him to be an oddly sympathetic character in this show. Although he wields a lot of power, he seems somewhat vulnerable.

Now the revenue agent: There's a wackjob. Talk about tightly wound...

I agree, but when most of the female characters are whores or mistresses, it's hard to get away from it. Still, it seems like they use it to pad out the hour.

Nucky's character is interesting*, as is the self-flagellating T-man. I'm also keen to see Al Capone make his big move.

*Edit to JeffK: Nucky is definitely sympathetic. There's a good heart in there somewhere, but it's like he's embraced his corrupt lifestyle as a shallow substitute for the love of his life, the late Mrs. Nucky. I think he'd trade it all to have her back. *sniff*

Ya i quit watching a couple weeks ago...i thought it got boring.

And as far as all the nudity, I like to see naked women as much as the next guy but between HBO & Showtime it's getting ridiculous on their original shows. I'm sure they do if for ratings but at this point I feel like my intelligence is being insulted.

I am enjoying the series...compared to all the other garbage on t.v. That said, the last couple of episodes haven't impressed me as much as the earlier ones.

I've got to say I'm very impressed. For one thing, I think the period-piece part of it is being done very well. From a cinematography perspective, the direction, editing, etc is unbelievable. The show is able to manage the various developing plots judiciously, which some shows have a hard time of doing. Also great point about it developing at a good pace, not too fast or crazy. For example, the shootout this week was great, because it's been such a build-up.

If anyone watches True Blood, I think it would be hard to deny that season 2 didn't build up so much that season 3 had any other choice but to be ludicrous as to keep the viewer's interest. There was a time when I'd watch that show and get that slightly eerie feeling, where Vampires were pretty nuts and any other creature was awe-inducing. Now its like, oh great now <insert character> is a whatever-the-f, *yawn*.

I find myself really wondering what's going to happen next, and find it generally unpredictable. Between this and Dexter, which are the only two seriously good shows on ATM, this has got my attention much more.

same here...

And I'm coming to terms with the fact that in recent TV history there have been 4 New Jersey based shows:

Sopranos
House
Jersey Shore
Boardwalk Empire

NJ land of the Crooked, womanizing Jerk offs with Doctors that need to almost kill you 2 or 3 times before they actually cure you... insulting you in the process

I wish the episodes were longer...it goes by waay too fast.

Didnt think I would like Buscemi in this role...but I got used to him.

The ONLY thing I don't like is Michael Pitt..that guy couldnt act his way out of a wet paper bag.(IMO)

I thought it was Brian Jonestown Massacre?

Anyways, the show is great. It's not the best show around or anything, but I enjoy it every week

Spot on analysis. You're exactly right. It's like he lost a part of his soul when he lost his wife. ("Mrs. Nucky". I love that!)

I"m not liking it all that much because I find I don't care all that much what happens to the characters.

I do care about the characters in Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy and Breaking Bad, but not the ones in Boardwalk. Just can't seem to get into it.
