Exclamation Book Publishing: Has anyone here ever done it?

And did you use a self-publishing, online company? I've done some reading on Outskirts Press.com and they have gotten a ton of negative feedback, it seems. In fact, the whole "self-publishing" industry seems to have a negative connotation associated with it - like those that are involved are mostly hack writers without the cred to get a "real" publishing company behind them.

Personally, I like the idea of self-publishing. Like probably many of you, my band is a DIY, self-sustaining entity and I like the idea of being in control oy my own product. Having "x" copies of a book printed and doing the rest myself seems very appealing, but I could just be being naive about the whole thing.

So any ideas? Tips? Advice? From anyone who may have had (or known someone who has had) a book published?

Thanks in advance,

-Bryan

Someone on here, but I forgot his username, has published this way. Hopefully, he'll pop in here on this thread.

I'm in the process of writing a cookbook and considering the self-publish option. There's ups and downs to it, but I'm not far enough in yet to have a lot of experience. I have several friends who are authors, however, and I'm happy to ask their opinions and pass them along. I think a couple of them have worked with both self-publish and publishing houses. If you have specific questions, PM them over.
