Boy plays for girls field hockey team

My understanding is that field hockey is also a big boy's/men's sport in other parts of the world, so I can understand this kid wanting to play. But because he's SO much faster and stronger than any of the other players he comes across (obviously all girls), his team is making a run for the state championship.

Apparently parents are the ones who are the most anti-boy. But isn't this fair? Are there any boy's field hockey teams in the US (I can't say I've ever heard of one)? And even if there are, his school doesn't have one so he has to be allowed to play, right?

Wrong. If it's a girl hockey team, a boy can't play in it. It sounds pretty obvious, no?
How come there is no male field hockey team? Is it considered a sissy sport in USA?

There are many girls' teams, but I've never heard of one for the boys. That's where lacrosse comes in...
He shouldn't be on the team IMO.

Many high schools have male lacrosse teams, but I haven't heard of many field hokey teams.

I have no issue with him being on the team. Women are allowed to play in a men's sport when there is no alternative (football is most prevalent around here), so why would a man not be given the same opportunity?

My thoughts exactly.

He shouldn't be able to play. There is the seperation of sexes for most sports, with good reason. Different physical attributes.

Surely there are male hockey teams in the US? I'll agree it is played more by women than men, but there are certainly guys who play it (aswell as other options such as Shinty, Hurling, Lacrosse etc).

Maybe he's just smart and wanted a legit way in the girls shower room?

On a quick look, theres national USA field hockey teams, so I'm sure he'd be able to find a regional team to join . . .

I'd do it as a way into the locker room.

I've never heard of shinty or hurling, so I'm going to assume that they aren't popular around these parts. Lacrosse as an alternative, I will buy into at face value.

The problem is that there may not be any alternatives presented by the high school or in his area, and as unfair as it may sound, the politically correct thing is to let him play.

everyone seems to think they or their offspring has a right to do or be anything, public or private, and the threat of a lawsuit backs them up....i doubt you would find many boys field hockey teams here, and we do have real hockey almost year round.....

here sports are more about inclusion than they are about sports, until you get to the competitive levels, but i can see where this tendency to include everyone might turn off a lot of kids who like to compete....parents are just too afraid to say no to their kids these days.....

Through out my lacrosse playing days, we had a girl on our team. Why? Because there was no girls team in the area. I see no difference in this case. If a girl can play on a boys team, a boy should be able to play on a girls team. There should be no differentiation. It isn't about political correctness, it is about equality.

Exactly. I'm personally against him playing on the girls' team, just as much as I'm against girls playing on a boys' team, but it is what it is. People are too concerned about making a 'one size fits all' alternative for reality instead of recognizing out individual strengths, weaknesses, and differences. It's kinda sad, really In any case, since PC rules the day, I say let the boy play.

I knew you were going to say that. I personally don't agree with girls playing on boys teams, the girl on our lacrosse team was a liability, but because it has been done in one direction, it has to be allowed in the other direction. That is just pure logic and I am someone ruled by logic. If that means I am PC, then so be it. I believe in equal rights for all, even though we are not all created equal.
