Branson, Missouri - what to see?

Sign in to disble this ad
I spent one day in Branson, Missouri some years back on a road trip
going out Route 66. It seemed very cool to me. Now, I'd like to take my
family there for a vacation.

What should I see there? What should I do there?
What should be on my agenda? (remember this is a family trip)
Suggestions and links are appreciated.

Branson is where you take your kids if they're bad. If they've been really bad, take them to Silver Dollar City...

If they've been good, drive on through...

Aw, c'mon, Branson isn't that bad.

Go see Yakov Smirnoff. As I recall, I had a few laughs. (I was also probably 10 years old at the time, so take that with a grain of salt.) At least you'll be able to better appreciate the "In Soviet Russia..." jokes all over the Internet.

Love the responses so far!

Branson has its' pluses and minuses.

If you like any type of outdoor stuff...fishing, hiking, camping...it's great and fairly cheap to get to. The new airport should help too.

As far as shows, there's some good ones and a lot of crappy ones. At the moment I'm playing with Tony Roi who does an Elvis tribute and filling in occasionally in some other shows in addition to a few after-hours gigs. Andy is not doing any shows until September.

Silver Dollar City is OK for the kids and fam. It's not Disney but it ain't bad. Been here 11 years () and it's slowly getting less hick/hillbilly as time goes on with some of the newer stuff. It gets a bad rap sometimes, and sometimes deserves it but Branson has its' good points too....one of the few cities I know of where I can make a steady living and buy a home playing bass without going on the road.
