Thumbs down BROKEN FINGERS

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys I broke three fingers on my left hand, the pinky was the only one spared.

Just out of complete curiosity how many bassists out there have broken fingers on the fretting or playing hand (while playing with a group). Right now I'm 4 weeks healing and going to see physical therapists to get my dexterity back.

Has anyone had a dramatic difference in playing because of it?

I've broken a few fingers on both hands (I haven't broken either of my thumbs, my right pinky or my left middle and ring)

Aside from being a bit stiff, I haven't noticed a change in playing.

A friend of mine broke both of his pinkies in a fight, he can no longer straight them fully. Lesson to be learned, make sure they heal correctly and do the physio.

I broke my middle finger, picking hand. That was like 5 years ago...dang.

It takes a while to heal back to the point of being able to use it again

NEW CLUB?

I'm in- ring & middle left(fretting). I believe my spread is slightly reduced, compared w/my right hand. I don't like 35" scale for this reason.

i guess the old football rule doesnt apply... (upon breaking a finger, tape it to one that isnt broken and dont be a p**** about it)

while i dont have any personal experience, im going to agree with everyone here and make sure everything is checked out, reset, and healed properly.

my shoulder is permanently separated because im an idiot and didnt seek immediate medical attention. heavy basses (like my 6) put me in a great deal of pain regardless of what strap ive got. you dont want to end up permanently at 90% playing capacity.

My right wrist is somewhat tempermental due to a scaphoid fracture from a couple years ago. It randomly gets a little stiff or gives me the odd twinge of minor pain, but it hasn't affected my playing yet, thankfully.

Word to the wise, bicycles and bottles of sake don't mix.

I broke the middle finger on my plucking hand during a pickup basketball game while on the second day of a 9-day tour in 1994...had to play that night as well as six of the next seven. I taped it to my ring finger, and survived.

But crikey did it hurt like a beeyatch! Not recommended.

I had my right middle finger crushed in the hinge of a door when I was a little kid, but didn't break the bone, just crushed my flesh. The docs were able to reconstruct it. I just have a scar and it kinda looks funny.

I love showing it to people. heheh
see my finger?

pinky on my plucking hand has nothing left of the knuckle (was broken and subsequently crushed to powdered fragments over a couple of seasons), so the only thing holding it on is ligaments, which were torn so badly, it can stick out 90 degress from the edge of my hand

...needless to say, i couldn't use it if i wanted to, it's just taking up space...gets stuck a lot, generally a nuisance, i've considered the ronnie lott treatment on occasion, but i could have it fixed eventually i suppose

Destoyed finger tips on middle and ring fingers of fretting hand December 20th, 2007. It was a little over a year before I could get back to normal playing.

Sorry, you'll get no criticism from me as I have many scars to show my poor judgment too. Sounds like you are lucky to only have broken fingers!
