Bruno Mars at the Grammys

I was blown away by Bruno Mars last night, doing a nice Motown take during the show. Also some VERY tasty bass work (very Motown) by the backing group. Janelle Monae also did OK, but I thought Mars stole the whole routine.

The good stuff starts at 2:40 into this clip...

We could use a LOT more of this kind of music!

I liked the performance, but he was rather pitchy throughout the performance. side note, he was listed as one of the producers on Cee Lo Green's "the song otherwise known as 'forget you'".

My GF shown me this morning. VERY nice performances.

Also, the amount of people who didn't know Arcade Fire was hilarious. ( whoisarcadefire.tumblr.com - there is vulgarity and obliviousness, both in large doses)

I wasn't really impressed with his performance. It was very stylish and flashy, but if you closed your eyes and listened, it wasn't all that special.

I had never heard of 90% of the people and bands at the event last night - but give the Bruno mars piece a look. Jump into the event at the time indicated and see what you think.

I like all of the youngblood r&b singers from that segment. It's interesting how they are reaching back to the Sixties for inspiration. I guess, I'll have to wait twenty years for the funk to come back.

Of all of the artists shown, other than Esperanza Spalding, the ony CD that I would consider buying is Eminem's.

I got to meet and spend some time with Janelle Monae here in Seattle a few months ago. I really like her stuff.

Janelle Monae is awesome. Her last album was top 5 of last year, IMO. She's like a female version of Outkast being backed by Funkadelic with some Prince stuff going on and James Brown dance moves

I first heard Bruno Mars in a B.O.B. song, then again in a Travie McCoy song before his own single was released, and I gotta say Ive only found him more annoying with each release. My mother in law to be had the nerve to think that his single would be a good first dance at our wedding. NOT gonna happen.

I'd rather party with him than listen to his music. The Cee Lo song is great, but doesn't hold a candle to Gnarls.

I was pleased to see a BAND win album of the year. And a female jazz upright bassist win best new artist. And to see Mavis Staples finally win her first Grammy.
