As I get older, I grow more and more concerned about what I put into my body. So lately, I'm trying very hard to get the recomended daily allowance of fruit and veggies. For fruit, I typically bring a couple of bananas to work with me. I eat one around brunch time and one mid afternoon and then usually an apple at night. I've noticed that everytime I eat a banana, it leave a buttery afertaste in my mouth. I've never experienced this before in my life. But lately, no matter whereI buy bananas, no matter what other foods I have throughout the day; my bananas all taste like they are coated in butter. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

-Mike | Could be. Would have to be new though. It's never happened. Only in the past few weeks. I must say I'm rather pleased since I do love buter but try to avoid it due to it's fattening ability.

It's more chalky. I wish it were buttery, like yours!

On a side note, my favorite dessert is sauteed bananas in brown butter with rum and brown sugar...poured into about 5 ounces of stout with ice cream...

It isn't there while I'm eating the banana. But as soon as I swallow the last bite, I have the taste of butter in my mouth for about ten minutes or so. Then it goes away.

I'm convinced a girl I dated in college gave me one more night of sex before breaking it off solely for those pancakes. |

any method to the mayhem, or is it just kinda sauteeing the bananas until they look done? how much brown sugar and or rum?
Must try this.

Add the butter and brown sugar first and let all the sugar dissolve - then add the bananas. Add the rum when the bananas look done. It should flame up a bit and when it stops the bananas are done.
I don't remember exact quantities, but with four bananas it should be around 2/3 or 3/4 cup of brown sugar into a few tablespoons of butter and I always used half a cup of rum.
Edit: Just realized you were asking louieeadg. That's my method anyway, but I'm curious how he does it as well. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
