Buying a guitar without being there personally

I'm from a distant place where no Musicman Ernie Ball Basses are for sale except online. But I don't trust the online market that much since I have never tried it before.

I'm 19, I want to buy a Musicman Ernie Ball Bongo 6 from Denver. My uncle is there and I will ask him to buy it for me (my money of course lol). Now the thing here is that he doesn't know anything about guitars and I haven't asked him yet if he had friends who knows stuff about guitars. He might end up picking a damaged one, unseen to a non-musically inclined person but very obvious for us. My plan is to make him buy it and check it himself, and ship it to me inside a very stable hard case.

Is there a way that I or my uncle buy the bass with no damage?
I really really want this bass so bad. Is there a kind soul out there that would be willing to help my uncle?

Everytime I encounter problems with my bass or basses, I always come here to seek guidance and help. Has anyone tried doing this before? Asking a relative/friend to buy a bass for you?

I would really appreciate it if you guys could help me out again.
I'm not a rich guy I'm just a student and $1900 is pretty big for me already. Thanks in adv!!

I'd have been happy to help out had I lived in Denver, so I expect you should be able to find some one here that would be willing to help you!

If it is a new one, I think he would be ok buying it with no experience. Musicman's quality control is so good that you simply won't run across a bad one. As long as he can verify it looks good cosmetically (you could even have him send you a bunch of pictures for good measure) you should be ok.

Isn't $1900 the full new price with case?

If you are going to pay that much anyway, why not try ordering online from MF or somewhere similar? I can see why it might be a little scary if you've never done it before, but you can always ship the bass back for free if you aren't satisfied. There's nothing to lose but the 10 minutes you spend on the phone preparing to send it back and the 30 minutes it takes to drop it off at the UPS store.

I don't know if the rest of TB dogs on these major retailers, but I've never had a single problem with their customer service or returning an item. You don't really have to worry at all about getting ripped off if you go that route.

Now if the one in Denver is used and you get a really good deal on it, and the shipping cost and cost for a flight case (since online shipping is free and the new bass comes with a case) doesn't negate the deal, then it's a different story.

+1.
