yeah. If i had to do it all over, i would save my money and get a mac. I love my dell though. They are better then most other companies around their price. The refurbished ones are AMAZING DEALS. I still say buy a mac.

i for one will never go back but if you're set on a PC dell is a good place to start for a general purpose machine. what do you plan on using the computer for?

Uhhh internet, music, porn, some gaming, porn, music, music, porn, school. Nothing to crazy, just general kinda stuff. I really don't know much about macs, and my family/friends are all pc people. What are some perks and reasons why macs are superior? If that is the case.

IMO it's all a matter of preference. for general use either platform will be fine. i was a PC guy for years, the main reason i switched was because i joined the faculty of a university music program that uses macs exclusively. if you needed the computer for music/audio/recording applications, i would say that mac is a better out of the box solution. for the uses you've indicated you're fine either way.

I actually like Acer and HP better than Dell. Dell just seems to lack in the peripheral department, too few USB ports or PC card slots...
The Acer laptop's I have seen are pretty high performers, for the buck...

I've not used them for musical purposes, but from what I've seen macs are definately the go if you want to use it for music.
If that's not really you main area of focus and you'd prefer PC, I would actually steer a bit clear from Dell and head towards HP.
My company I've been with for over 4 years was originally buying HP's and then decided to try dell because they were cheaper. The failure rate of the Dell's was huge in comparrison to the HP's. In fact I was using the same HP laptop I got when I arrived 4 years ago until I recently got an upgrade, but never had any issues. Some of my colleagues that arrived after me were given Dell's and most have had to be replaced within 18 months sometimes much sooner.
The HP's might be a bit more expensive, but they're extremely well built and should last you well until you decide it's time to upgrade again in a few years.

FWIW, my dell was a desktop. my only current PC is an HP laptop, still works after 3 years (albeit a bit slow). YMMV.

Most laptops out there these days are good machines for general use. I've had bad experiences, or my father has (working in IT, ordering and repairing machines for a company) and has had problems with just about every machine in one way or another.

As far as PC goes, Dell seems to put out a good product, he personally uses a Gateway tablet, and I've had nothing but wonderful experiences with Macs.
