Buying your own domainname/website/webspace

Hi all,

I was wondering how I should proceed when I want to buy my own domain name & where to get the webspace I'd need to run a small website showing high quality images.

I feel that the easiest method is to go through 1and1.com. Cheap, reliable, they handle domain registration and they have a photo archive and easy website creator feature as well as many others. Can't get much better than this. They have been hosting my sites for years with no problems and fast response to questions.

Vorago,

I have watched some threads on this topic at fredmiranda.com over the last few months. There is a sticky thread in the wedding photographers forum that especially has some good info even for nonwedding photographers but it seems that a lot of guys like HostGator as a host for their service and reliability. I'm speaking strictly second-hand here and not from experience but there seemed to be a large number of people who really like hostgator.

There are also a lot of sites that have website templates that are pretty slick and easy to use and are available for a small one-time fee but I don't know if you're interested in that kind of thing. If so one place in particular that looks pretty good and that people seem to be happy with is Creative Motion Design They do prebuilts and custom builds that cater to photographers and have a broad range of prices.

I'm about to start a personal photoblog project and I just registered my domain through Google. I found out in the process that they use GoDaddy, which often has mixed reviews but I went with it because it was super easy to do it for 10 bucks and direct it to my blogger blogsite.

I hope that you find one of the above tidbits useful.

bc

Your best bet is probably Godaddy. They have the best range of available domain extensions and a good service history.

Ah, good one. http://www.squarespace.com/ and http://cargocollective.com/ would allow you to showcase images with a rad-looking site.
