Why not just save some cash and drink coffee? I say drink 10 more cans since we are all qualified medical professionals on a bass guitar forum.

I was sustaining myself by drinking 2 liters of Mountain Dew or Jolt Cola every day. After awhile, my central nervous system started getting a bit jittery and I couldn't function properly at all at any of the things I was doing, and at one point the whole world seemed to be moving at a faster speed than normal and I couldn't keep up. It was like I was mentally and physically stuck in slow motion.
I took that as a warning and stopped drinking so much caffeine and have limited my caffeine and sugar intake since then to very small amounts.

Since then I've started drinking tea and water and cut way back on caffeine. Eventually you start feeling physically better.

Reasonable consumption of caffeine is no problem as far as I'm concerned, but don't megadose on caffeine. It does stress your heart and circulatory system. A few years ago I found that my heart was skipping an occasional beat...reason? Too much caffeine. I just cut back and all is well.
You may be young, but you're not invincible. Take care of yourself. There must be a way to get more sleep than you have been.

Do yourself a favor and take short breaks every hour or so. You'll last much longer and need less caffeine. It's also amazing what a two hour nap will do.
After completing 320 semester hours of University courses over the years, I can safely say from experience that the breaks and short naps do help.
Also, if you feel jittery and have occasional palpitations (skipped heartbeats) take a break and rest and hold off taking any more caffeine. If it persists, seek medical advice from a qualified professional.

Drinking 'em later in the evening will cut down on your REM sleep and you won't wake up as well rested. BTW, I am a licensed health professional. |

There comes a point where no amount of caffeine is going to keep you going in a productive way.
I drink an average of about 2 pots of coffee per day for the past 30+ years. I drink it because I like it, not as a way to stay awake.
