"... reports that Bedford had the equivalent of 70 energy drinks in his system at the time of his death ... "

Yeah, that sounds like a bright plan.

Too much of anything can kill you and there's always someone dumb enough to prove it.

Anywhere I've seen caffeine powder it always has a rather large warning on it only to use a couple hundred mg at a time, tops!

I'm convinced that someday a scientist is going to figure out that if you forcefeed excessive amounts of anything to a rat, it will develop cancer.
Meanwhile we can only hope these morons do these things to themselves before they contribute their genes to the pool.
Which is obviously desperately in need of some chlorine.

Caffeine is actually a lot more dangerous than a lot of people seem to think. Sure, too much of anything will kill you, but compared to a lot of things, it's pretty strong. And toxic.

It was discovered that if you give 70 gallons of water to a laboratory rat in one setting to drink it will burst. So water causes rat bursting.

the feds release a list of total deaths per year from various drugs as reported by emergency rooms. i once saw one. caffeine was low on the list, but it was there, with several hundred (if not thousand).

not too hijack, but cannabis is on the list too, last, with zero deaths. doesn't really belong on the list at all really.

but, yeah, caffeine is bad, ...m'kay.

Last week, according to AOL Health, it came to light that Michael Lee Bedford, the British man, died after consuming "spoonfuls" of caffeine powder at a party with friends. AOL Health reports that Bedford had the equivalent of 70 energy drinks in his system at the time of his death in April. According to Dr. Eric Braverman, a lethal dose of caffeine would be about 10,000 milligrams — or 100 cups of coffee — the website reports
Another article said it was Red Bull, which has 80 mg of caffeine. 80 x 70 = 5,600 mg caffeine.

Its amazing how socially acceptable caffeine, as a drug, has become.

I mean, if you can't buy pure powdered cocaine, why can you buy pure powdered caffeine? They are both stimulants, they both produce rather similar effects, they are both addictive, and they both (in a condensed powdered form) are quite easy to overdose on, they are both drugs.

Yet one is outlawed, and the other is enjoyed by millions of people around the world.

Somewhat ironically, the general complacency with which caffeine is treated is what killed him. Had someone offered him a couple of spoonfuls of cocaine he'd have though twice about it before scoffing it down.

^ This..

The prohibition and criminalization of cannabis use is one of the largest criminal acts against free peoples in itself.
It has been an integral part in developing the ever growing military style, police state, mentality of policing in North America, and beyond.
Why? I'll give you a hint. It has nothing to do with cannabis.

Not surprised. Caffeine can cause all kinds of symptoms with milder doses, too, like heart palpitations. I'm especially worried about those drinks that mix energy drinks and alcohol, people might drink half a dozen vodka-Red Bulls within a few hours if they're on a binge.

ooooh, pulses! Those things are great fun.

About a shot of vodka and a small redbull, all in a tiny little can, you drink half a dozen of them in 30 minutes if you are not careful though, as they taste suspiciously like straight lemonade. They used to be really cheap too.

Realistically its sort of like.. really lame speedballing. Probably not much safer either.

What sucks about all this, and that is alarming to me personally, is that it has no effect on me anymore as a stimulant. Anything I drink for coffee is basically a "maintennance dose". And I crash hard and turn into the Incredible (grumpy) Bulk if I don't have it.

Caverous migraines on top of all of it. So, my 4-6 cup habit stays. For the good of the people. BULK SMASH!
