Can Windows 7 Stream to an HDTV?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I'm in the market for a new TV. Don't know when I can afford one but I need a new one.

All during the NHL Playoffs this windows 7 zombie commercial kept popping up.

In Microsoft's infinite wisdom they left out all the details (and used dated memes) and I've only been able to uncover the remote streaming in which you can connect media player between two computers. Nothing about computer to TV.

So my question is,...are any of you TBers using this? Is this commercial accurate? How does it work? What equipment to I need?

I would like to be able to wirelessly stream NHL Gamecenter to an HDTV as well as Netflix, perhaps Youtube and Hulu. Has Gates fooled me again?

I just have an HTPC hooked up in my cabinet and a cable running from it to my TV. Even have a remote that'll control it all, then a wireless keyboard/mouse to do things I can't on the control.

I guess that's what I'm hoping to turn my laptop into, but sans wires as the commercial suggests. I guess I'm cool with wires if this turns out to be a dud.

You need the intel technology more than anything that MS provides...

There's got to be some kind of hardware receiver or another computer on the TV end. I just run an HDMI cable from my laptop.

its not windows 7 you have to worry about its whether you video card can do it.

I have my computer streaming to my tv for movies and such.

I noticed you want to wirelessly do it.

your tv will need to have a media center and some kind of lan port or wirless lan card built in to achieve this.

That's what I thought. The commercial is really misleading. Like you can do this if you have all the right gear. My guess is they left out the part where they streamed it to the Xbox they were playing the zombie video game or something of that nature.

Ho hum,...wired it is. I've been able to run a VGA cable from my laptop to my friend HDTV and his is an entry level TV he picked up at walmart (a samsung I think). I may just opt for a large monitor since I don't really want cable TV.

I run an hdmi cable from my video card and can play games and movies or music through my tv. if you have an NVidia or ATI video card this should be very easy to do.
