Canada is messed up

Alright, I've been to Victoria three times. It is basically the USA but they have funny money and say "eh" instead of "huh".

Today I made my first venture into another part of Canada, Windsor, Ontario. After a few short hours spending money in the area, going as far east as Tecumseh, I can with a certainty proclaim that Canada is messed up. I present the following facts as proof of my claim...

#1.....cell service. Within a mile of crossing the Ambassador Bridge, I lost all cell service. It was like I crossed a huge invisible force field blocking Verizon cell phone reception. What is more, I didn't see anyone using cell phones while I was in Canada. It looks to me like cellular telephones are a thing of the future in Canada.

#2......measurements. Imagine my delight when I found gas for .99, and speed limits of 80 or 100. Well, I found out those are NOT US dollars or miles per hour. I identified those as metric measurements upon which I was sternly corrected by an older fellow who told me it was imperial measurements. I quickly snipped back...."so hey gramps, when was the last time a Canadian team won the Stanley Cup?". Hehe.

#3.......language. Why is everything in French? I didn't meet or talk to one single person today who spoke French, looked French, or even had a French accent.

Despite these shortcomings, I did fine one redeeming quality of Canada. You can buy pain pills with codeine. All I had to do was go through some "counseling" by the pharmacist which went like this....
Me: I heard you can buy pain pills with codeine in them here in Canada.
Pharmacist: You're not from Canada?
Me: No.
Pharamcist: Where are you from?
Me: Washington State.
Pharmacist: Oh, by Seattle.
Me: Yes, that is in Washington. So can I get some of those pills?
Pharmacist: Yes you can. Do you want a bottle?
Me: Yes please, make that two.
Pharmacist: *opens secret drawer under counter and hands me two bottles*.
Me: *pays and leaves*. But I did have this huge lump in my throat and sick feeling in my stomach as I went through US customs.

So yeah, Canada seems like an alright spot, but youn'z have some catching up to do.

-Mike

I'm from Canada. I won't disagree with your statement lol but I won't necessarily agree either.

#1 - You have an American phone. I don't get very good service in the states with my Canadian phone either.
#2 - I believe you'll find that it is the USA that is messed up in this regard, as most other people use the metric system.
#3 - I agree. I don't think everything should be in French, as Quebec (approx. 1/14th of Canada) is the only French province. Yet, every morning on my cereal, I must see foreign writing under "Honey Nut Cheerios". Don't ask me what it means.

A little border here and there and Detroit would be in Canada.

This x 100. I use the metric system on a daily basis and it is sooo much easier than Ye Olde English System for pretty much everything.

Not to mention the fact that it is the language of science and the system for almost the entirety of the rest of the world.

In the US, that foreign writing is Mexican(Spanish).

Why do all americans think that the US is the center of the universe?

Yeah it really sucks here in Canada, we all have free health care.

Want to loose your sanity quickly. Do a job that uses uses metric measurements, but designed by Americans. So you get a conglomeration of metric and "standard" measurements.

An issue with optics. 20mm lens, centered to .0002in.

I always love assisting in the lab the first few weeks of school. So many freshmen really don't understand the metric system. So you have to dumb it down, or when you tell them 100 cm's they nod and ask how many inches that is and then write inches down on the assignment.

Also that would drive me nuts. My car is like that, so I need a 15mm this and a 3/4 in that... so annoying...

Canada has Celine Dion. Top that!

Wait a minute. Doesn't she live in that cultural mecca, Las Vegas?

Sorry...you win again.

ALL Americans think the U.S. is the center of the universe? I've just spent three months in Europe and no one accused me of thinking that way. In fact, I was complimented for being so in tune with what was going on in Europe. But I will agree that the American health care system is flawed.

Show me one that isn't.

In Canada, you'll pay exorbitant taxes for what many Canadian's believe is a free system. While it's a convenient system to use, the quality is sub par compared to many other countries with private health care. It's a leading reason why I have concerns going back to Canada. Canadian's are willing to accept 6-8 month waits for an MRI or other specialized tests.

Private health care is the way to go.

Canada appreciates Kraft Dinner.

"I'm behind metric every inch of the way!" - Red Green

Metric and Imperial are pretty messed up in Canada.

Q: "What is the mileage on your car?" A: "Just over 200,000k."

I am good with temperature in Celsius, speed in kph, distances in km. But I need heights in feet and inches, weights in pounds.

And don't get me started about quarts of beer
