This is a thread of appreciation for Cannoli's ! I would have to say they are by far my favorite desert and I have had the pleasure in sampling them from the finest bakeries in NY.

Yes, and for that I hate you
Another reason I miss living an hour and half away from NYC. Finding good cannoli's or in Florida is like growing oranges in Central Park |

To everyone else: ricotta or custard filling?

Then I remembered that I was playing at one of the best Italian places in town that very night and decided it could wait.
(MM - if you're in the DC area - Pistone's Italian Inn in Falls Church VA, Seven Corners at VA route 7 and US 50. Highly highly recommended.)

apparently, the best cannolis in boston are right around the corner from Mike's...the name escapes me now, dangit.
ricotta all the way.

ricotta all the way. | Modern pastry?
That's right down the street from Mike's. I'm sure there are better cannolis in the north end in some of the smaller bakeries and shops.
My Mom is Italian and her family grew up on custard-filled cannolis, which I used to prefer when I could eat them. I still think they're one of the greatest deserts ever invented.
I actually work at an Italian specialty foods store and we make good cannolis (among other things). They're rather easy to make.

I'm sorry you guys live soooooooo far from here because ... ehm ... I live in Catania - Sicily, that (for those of you who didn't know) IS THE PLACE WHERE CANNOLI WERE INVENTED and of course THE BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD FOR CANNOLI!!!
For those wondering about ricotta vs cream: the ORIGINAL, ONE and ONLY "cannolo" is filled with ricotta mixed with chocolate chips and orange peel chips. Then both sides of the "cannolo" are gently spread with pistachio powder.
For those having problem with ricotta, the only alternative is the "chocolate cannolo", a cannolo filled with chocolate cream and with the sides spread with almond flakes. It's good but ... hey ... it's for kids!! Adults eating them are usually looked at suspiciously
In some little villages in the inner part of Sicily you can occasionally find cannoli filled with white cream: people eating them are usually looked at like Martians
