I'd like to get a cannon for the wife and I to shoot for fun and for possible home defense.
smaller, more portable would be best but we would like a decent range with a wide array of warhead capabilities.
I have a hitch on my Honda element, so it would be ideal if it could be towed with that.
We have no experience, so I'm open to suggestions...
I've heard vintage cannons are cool because you pack yer own powder etc but have limited range and bad accuracy.
Perhaps something post ww2 would be better.
bazookas seem cool but I would like to avoid the recoil, plus it's better if we can share the loading and shooting as a team.
We are also hoping to get our kids in on it for educational purposes and so they are acclimated to heavier weapons.
All suggestions on what to get are welcome. |

A member of our range is recovering from a November mortar accident at the range, he may lose his hand if serious infection follows...A faulty, commercial round caused the damage to the him, and totaled the equipment.

So I guess that's a danger up front...
Was looking into older soviet leftovers from the cold war and Afghanistan conflicts,
But the quality of rounds being an issue makes me think us black market perhaps.
I'm not thinking infantry mortar, btw, I would like a nice trailer style full on cannon. something to keep the neighborhood feeling safer in case of invasion. |

only half joking here... | I have a friend who has a friend that knows somebody that might be able to help you. No, wait, one of them has "gone away" for a while, 3-10. Maybe later, if you aren't in a hurry.

Where's the DIY spirit gone today?

They worked well with china berries and, if you were lucky, marbles.A bad malfunction could leave you with the nickmane "Lefty."

| | | | While not quite a cannon, the Navy's testing out a new railgun which looks like it'd be good for home defense. |

Or find an old aristocratic family with a castle, that needs money.
Black powder, cast iron cannons - preferably with clay dots.

Where's the DIY spirit gone today? | My friend and I made a RPG type thing in my younger days. PVC pipe, a handle taped on and bottle rockets for ammo. As you can imagine it wasn't too accurate but pretty fun. Ahhh the stupid things middle school kids do.
