Car audio advice...

Sign in to disble this ad
I got a 1992 ext cab toyota truck, and here is my current audio set up:

Kenwood amp, MB quart 12" sub

Kenwood deck (Forget which model... aux input on the back, HD/SAT radio ready)

Jensen 6" speakers in the rear (SUCKITUDE)

And I believe pioneer 4" up front...

I'm happy with the sub and the amp... It isn't boomy and obnoxious outside the cab, so I dont have to worry about pissing off the neighbors when I'm returning from a night of lechery, but it sounds great inside the truck.

I'm stuck with the 4" speakers up front, I just want to upgrade them...

Now the rears, I can play with a bit. I'm pretty sure I can squeeze some 6x9s in there with minor trimming, or 5x7s with even less.

I've been looking on crutchfield, but i would rather hear advice from more people.

So, thoughts on what I should do here?

You can absolutely NOT go wrong with anything Alpine. They are the best for a reason. For those that don't like Alpine (or their prices) there is Hertz. Great speakers, cheaper than Alpine.

If you're happy with your sub set-up, I'd avoid 6x9s or 5x7s. I would invest in a good set of components (separate mid range driver and tweeter.) The larger speakers in 6x9s can produce lower freqs that will interfere with your subs range.

If you are dead set on the "ovals of death" invest in a graphic eq unit or separate crossover unit.

BTW, depending on how brave you feel about modding/cutting your dash/doors, you may not need to settle with those tinny sounding 4" speakers.

I dont know how much you want to spend but what about Polk?, they are great speakers , I would also suggest to look at Blaupunkt or DB drive.

I agree about not wasting time with the 6x9s or 5x7s. Invest in either a component setup, or just better 6" speakers.

I like my MTX Thunders, but a bigger budget will allow better stuff.

You could always go the Wal*Mart route.

If you have room for 6x9's, you can do a 6.5" midbass. I agree that seperates are the way to go. I've had nothing but good to say about the JBL's in my ride.

It is loud and expels a lot of toxic fumes?
