car audio speaker wiring question

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all,

I am replacing the front and rear speakers in my 2000 Honda Civic. I have run into a seeming brick wall regarding the wiring though.

The problem: the wires for the speakers don't match up to any color code I know and I don't know which goes + and which -

tweeters: (located in the corners of front windows, near side mirrors) blue and red

right front: gray w/ black stripe, blue

left front: red w/ green stripe, brown w/ black stripe

right rear: red w/ yellow stripe, brown w/ white stripe

left rear: gray w/ white stripe, blue w/ yellow stripe

On top of that, there seems to be something else wired in parallel with the front speakers. That is, instead of there being one + and one - wire going to each front speaker, there are two. Could this possibly be the tweeters? Just a guess, I'm shooting in the dark here.

Any guidance anyone?

If you don't know if your speaker wires are positive or negative, you can take a household 9v battery and attach the leads to it. If the speaker expands you'll know that its right. If it contracts, just reverse the leads.

Hook them up one way, if the sound is backwards, you have them on the wrong connectors.

Shouldn't your 2000 Honda just have sets of wiring harnesses to make this easy?

But you should totally do it while listening to Led Zeppelin so you can hear the messages to the Devil.
