Not sure if anyone here really understands what this means but today I reached a major career milestone by being awarded my Canadian Submarine Dolphins.
Submariner for life.

I'll find out in the next few weeks if my last 4.5 years of work will come to fruition.

Make sure you keep the dolphins fed...or they'll turn on you.

Are you in one of the British subs Canada bought awhile ago? |

It was a lot of work to achieve this and took 22 months to do so. I was set back by a severe car accident and a nasty viral ear infection but never gave up. This is certainly the biggest achievement of my life.

Russians sonar operator "What the hell is that?" Boom bump thump

my soon-to-be-ex wife's step dad was in the navy. here said they offered guys a chance to try out sub duty. he said as soon as he got in it, he knew it was not for him.
long stretches of time, deep under water, nothing but other guys.... new set of jokes coming to mind....

And soon American subs will be going through the same change.... Good luck with that.

Submariner for life. | I remember when I joined the Canadian Armed Forces back in 1973 one of the trades they offered me was Sonarman Underwater. I chose Supply Tech instead, there was no way I was going to spend any time on board one of those old diesel-electric powered tin cans! So congratulations, Xavier, that's quite an achivement!
BTW, I did my basic training at CFB Cornwallis (NS) in '73, and nowadays it's no longer there. Where did you do your basic?

I realized very quickly after finishing high school that the military was my calling and my ultimate goal the day I signed the dotted line was to become a submariner. Now I wonder what my next goal will be.
Being from Nova Scotia I have been to Cornwallis area a few times and have heard many stories (some good, some not so good) about what Basic Training was like back then. I believe the base and most of the buildings are still standing.
Did you ever have your bed thrown out the window??
