Anyone else think it's weird show calls folks novices a lot on her board and claims Lakland's aren't professional basses? I always thought forums were a place for multiple opinions, but I just read some post that remind me of how authoritarian some people are about something as innocent as bass.

In what context did she post that?

Sounds like she's too far up her own *** to see the rest of the world doesn't give a crap.

Considering some of the more questionable aspects of her long career, I can't say that I'm particularly surprised. Plus I seem to recall a few years back she went on record saying some completely insane things about the internet. Ah senility, you've done it again!

I think you must be kidding, but in case you're not, she is one of the most renowned studio musicians in history.

I hadn't heard that one. But in light of the other things I've read, I can't say I'm surprised.

She also has claimed to have written some bass lines which have been confirmed to have been written by the late, great James Jamerson,

Can you provide a link so we can get some context?

if you read bob babbitts article regarding sessions he played on and received credit/not received credit for, carole kaye's claims make sense.....it is not at all unusual for several versions of a particular part to be recorded by different people in different regions,or different times......the fact that jamerson's version ended up on the final cut in no way makes those claims untrue.....i find it odd that no one beats up on bob babbitt for making similar claims....

it's a fact of life for studio guys that credits are hit and miss.....having been in the work force when women began entering male dominated fields,i am not surprised.....one can only imagine the crap she had to put up with, and i can see where it may have driven her a tad over the edge....

Carol Kaye: You’ve Heard Her Bass, but not Her Name

Quote:
The number, and breadth of the songs and hits that session bassist Carol Kaye worked on is almost inconceivable. Kaye was at the center of both the pop and movie soundtrack world of Los Angeles for more than a decade; yet she’s still virtually unknown.

EDIT: more...
Yup. She's a bass player...

I can't agree here, she would know if her recording made it to the final cut, if she were to say, "they called me in to record the baseline, but it was cut" that would be a different story.

There are members of this forum that have said derogatory things abot Laklands. So what? She's entitled to her opinion.

I'm aware of that and read what Carol Kaye has said about the issue on her site some time ago. However, it is a controversy which I'm personally not very interested in one way or another.

Huge fan of Carol Kaye's playing and I frequent her forums/website quite often. I will never post, though.

Lots to learn from her, but you will have to pick around a little. If she starts telling a story you disagree with, just skip it, move on and don't let it bother you.

Great bass player, but not someone I'd really enjoy conversing with. Her sheet music books are very good too.
