Cat Puke

Why does it seem cats puke mostly at night? Why is it that only the husband hears the cat puke?

How can cat puke be so well concealed? Yet many times, one can walk past it not realizing 'I almost stepped in that!?

Other times, you find it by stepping in it. Many times, even after a thorough sweep of the perimeter, you don't find it until days later when it's all dry & crusty?

Why do we even have cats? Seems so much bother!

We had 2 cats for over a 30 year time span. The memory of dirty litter boxes and the cat peeing in my old sneakers makes me laugh. Outdoor cats are better since they do their business outside. You keep it because you love it. Now, I have cat pictures and the remains of one cat in my house, I say keep the cat for as long as you can ...You will miss it if you give it up too soon.

what's worse is a 100+ lbs dog that ALWAYS hears the cat puke and immediately lifts his head, sniffs in the air for a second, and then races you to clean it up

I sure do have a past with cat puke. It was quite the business to have to clean up. Luckily my two cats always tended to do it in somewhat open areas... when my older cat reached around 20 years, that's when he started pooping in the most random spots. A much more sordid affair if I do say so myself.

Funny story. When I went to college I got a new smaller rig, so my half-stack stayed at home in the basement (where my older cat stayed). I don't think I noticed for at least a year, but when I got home for the summer and saw my half-stack, there was a ton of cat puke randomly splashed on the cabinet. No clue how it got there in that pattern (though I have my theories). One of my former guitarists who is a classic metalhead saw the cabinet at practice and immediately coined the phrase, "Cat puke is f'in metal".

Yes, that is actually cat puke.

My cat's pretty good. She'll yak up a furball once in a great while but the worst is my dog... I have no clue why, but when she's going to yak, she'll ALWAYS, INEVITABLY, 100% go for the carpet. In a house that is mostly hardwood and tile floors we only have one carpeted room and one room with an area carpet. Aiming for a carpet takes work..Despite being yelled at for staining the carpet, rewarded and praised for the rare time she misses the carpet, she always goes for it regardless. AAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, cat puke...... My floors are stained with it. My bed spread, a little bit, too. My fave is when they barf near the litter box.

Just barf in the damn box. Please! You are right there. I will clean it up immediately, I promise. But NO.............

And I usually get to clean it up. Which make sense, seeing as I am the only boy in the place.

Oy.

I woke up this morning thinking that someone should start a thread about cat puke. My cat usually goes with "projectile vomiting" to get coverage on as large an area as possible. He can really hurl it out there and seems pleased with the results.

I have two dogs. It's a self contained system. One pukes, the other "cleans it up"....

How big of a cat do you have? that's a lot!!

One of mine that passed away last year had a thyroid issue causing him to drink a boatload of water and then find the worst place in the house to leave a projectile-style 3-4 ft sq puddle. He did this about twice a week until we had him diagnosed.

Any cat owners, if your cat does do this (it usually happens when they get older) this is a thyroid condition that can be tempered with daily meds. I know it's a hassle but if you love your pet, i say do it.

This might be what i was referring to in the post above. Have your cat checked for thyroid irregularities. Seriously.

My cat usually pukes where we can see it, and actually tries to get it on the kitchen floor or other non-carpet area. Usually it's just a hairball.

Though with my last cat by marriage, there were a few times where I didn't find it until about a week later. Once was while she was sitting on the back of the couch and proceeded to heave all over the top and down the back. Getting dried puke off leather isn't easy.

What's really fun is when they eat half of a bird under your bed and then puke up the guts 30 minutes later - right in time for you to be just finishing cleaning up the bird carcass...

That cat was awesome. The last couple of cats I've shared a house with weren't hunters, and didn't really hurl much.

My dog peed on my amp and gig bag. Two separate occurrences. I guess he doesn't like when I go into the "music room" and ignore him.
