I left my TV on Versus after the hockey game, and professional bull riding came on. No biggie, I am reading e-mail and posting here, so it served as good background noise. I glance up a couple times, and I see this thin black guy walking into the arena with a couple white guys competing in the event tonight. No biggie, black dudes can ride bulls too.
But no, it's big mouth Chad Johnson with supposedly a new fascination with professional bull riding. Someone from the PBR challenged him to ride, and he decided to accept it. Is Chad really interested in bull riding? My guess is no. Is he an attention whore suffering because of the lockout? Yes in my opinion. He get's $10,000 if he rides the bull, and a brand new F-150 if he lasts the full eight seconds. The show is two hours long, but I'm going to leave it on to see what happens. I hope the bull flips him into the stands.

Anyway, he tried out for MLS Soccer and it didn't pan out. Now he's going for PBR... what's next? A stint in NASCAR?

If he would've left it at the soccer tryout, it would've been cool. He is becoming quite the nuisance though.

| | | | Why are you annoyed by someone doing something they feel like doing? Because you think it's insincere and he doesn't really mean it? Because he's just trying to get your attention? Don't pay attention to him, then. That's easy to do.
If you want to complain about someone, why not Roethlisberger or Vick or someone who's a genuine low life like that? Chad Johnson just has a big mouth and is good at taking the spotlight. He's not hurting anyone. I think he's entertaining... first because he brings showmanship to sports, which is what sports need to be interesting and secondly because he pisses off the kind of boring, no-nonsense drones who take sports too seriously. They're grown men playing a children's game, fer chrissake... laugh a little.

He's even said that soccer is his favorite sport. He warms up by juggling the soccer ball. Finally, you can youtube him kicking a PAT and a kickoff (i think during preseason). Not a lover/hater of 85, but I think it's pretty cool that he's doing this.
I'd like to see the locked out football players form some rugby teams. I'd pay to watch that. |

My thing is, once anyone goes down the reality/fake show road, Im done. More power to him, I'll just wait for the highlights.

I can see you losing respect for someone doing idiot reality shows but, ultimately, entertainment is just entertainment and that's all sports are. Even the stupid stuff is his prerogative so I don't begrudge him anything. I remember watching the guys on ESPN get bent out of shape because his TD dances were too excessive and I had to smile.. TD celebrations are SERIOUS BIZNIS! No laughing allowed! Frankly, he was kind of creative in his showboating so good for him.

I don't LIKE Johnson (like Mike, I refuse to use his "stage name"), but I don't find him to be truly offensive either. He's a harmless and sometimes entertaining guy. He doesn't seem to take himself too seriously either.
The other guys you mention I won't begin to discuss in detail, because it will begin another long argument that will not end well...

He can definitely be a prima donna on the field and on the sideline, but when he's off from football he seems to just kinda be a goofball. He might be a self centered goofball, but a goofball nonetheless. Also he seemed to take his practices with the KC MLS team seriously, and apparently has been taking PBR seriously, so who knows, he might last a respectable amount of time on the bull whenever he rides it. I have a feeling he's a guy whose got a fair bit of respect for PBR, and I imagine anything else he'd try out. He's like the prime time version of Dahani Jones.
As far as him beating Anderson Silva, well, that's just amusing.
