It's three days now until the festival of Purim, today being the fast of Esther. So I thought I would wish any and all Jewish Talkbassers a happy Purim!

It's considered a spiritual act to get really, really drunk on Purim.
The rabbinic directive is that you should get so drunk that you can't tell the hero of the story (Mordechai) from the villain (Haman).
It's a very joyful holiday

It's a very joyful holiday | Hamantaschen are super yummy too, when made right. They're pastries with dough folded around a filling to make the shape of a hat. I'm particularly fond of the ones with chocolate or poppy. |

Dunno whether it's a universal Jewish thing, but it's also customary in my local Jewish communities during Purim to give gifts to friends and even to strangers or charity.
My local synagogue, there's usually a Purim play done by the children with bright costumes and lots of audience participation (and noise!).
