Chainsaw on a Stick: Good Gift for Children?

Sign in to disble this ad
When I was 7 (this wouldve of been 1970) my uncle Leo bought me a set of lawn darts. Jarts were heavy weighted darts about a foot long....kind of like playing a deadly game of horse shoes. This toy had to be responsible for dozens of tragic accidents...."hey kids, throw these sharp metal missiles up in the air!"

Now Uncle Leo was a highly decorated combat veteran of several wars. Here's a guy who climbed into caves on Iwo Jima with a knife....for him flame throwers weren't particularly "dangerous".

My parents thought the Jarts were cool and we had lots of fun. Despite this I survived and grew to adulthood.

Fast forward to 2007...

I'm just imaging buying my friends kids a gift like this. They'd be incredulous...is he crazy? trying to kill our precious kid? Its a shame since kids no longer get really cool gifts like Jarts and BB guns.

So I decided that what these kids really want is a chainsaw on a pole. Imagine how cool it would be to have one of these at age 8. Maybe two so you could duel with your friends.

I remember jarts and I grew up in the 90's. Sweet game that would never be aloud anymore.

LOL @ jarts.

my physics teacher was talking about those this last week. He said that he cracked his neighbor's driveway with em when he was a kid (he's in his 40s now).

He also spoke about water wiggles, and how they would strangle people.

Not with today's gas prices. A day of dueling with your friends would cost a kid a pretty penny.

We had an old set of Lawn Darts in the garage when I was a kid. You really need a big open area to play a good game so my neighbor and I rode our bikes a couple blocks to the park.

About 10 minutes in a police officer pulls up, tells us to pack it all up and drives us back to my house. He had a short talk with my mom and the lawn darts were never seen again. I'm still not sure what happened to them.

Just like the tire swing we had hanging from a tree on the levee of the Sacramento river. We had it set up to fling us about 10 feet into the water. The current was pretty strong but it never seemed dangerous to me. Then one kid drowns and they cut down our swing.

The cop took them home for his kids.

Yep, I remember the old "Bag O Glass" too. Kids could amuse themselves for hours with that stuff. It's amazing I survived growing up in the 60's. In between the lead paint chips we use to scarf down, the twenty mile walk to school, uphill both ways, dodge ball and rope climb in gym class, It's amazing I'm able to even walk after my fiftieth birthday.

On December 19, 1988, all lawn darts were banned from sale in the United States by the Consumer Product Safety Commission[1]. Shortly after, in 1989, they were also banned in Canada.[2] Lawn darts, used in an outdoor game, have been responsible for the deaths of three children, the latest being in early 1997 near Elkhart, Indiana.[1]

Two words:

Shaolin Cowboy

Further words: Issues 5 and 6. He uses it to kill a demon controlled swarm of sharks (I dunno what the group term for that is, so I'm going with alliteration).

We have a chainsaw on a stick. That thing rocks!!! Great for clearing the creek of flood debris, and for zombie control.

good point on zombie control. But do you find that when you're fighting zombies with it, you kill maybe a dozen but then the chain saw stalls and they eat you alive?
