Very cool, saw similar last year, been planning on putting one like that together for our physics dept for a while now!

My A level physics class always build one of these when we do Simple Harmonic Motion and Resonance. It's a great demo, but the precision in string length takes a few attempts to get right.

Thanks, will keep that in mind!

We have a bunch of demo's in our 1st year UG lab which are used for schools, most of what we have is optical based, so it'd be nice to have something a bit different!

A Non-Newtonian fluid is a great visual demo too. Cornflour and water sitting in an old car speaker humming at about 40 Hz gives for some really impressive displays. I think there's a video on YouTube but I'm on my phone right now so can't post a link.

I've seen those before, looks like it comes to life!

Only problem with that is I don't think you could leave it out without it going a bit minging! We did make cornflour goop in school for "gunging" our teachers on year.
