for n-octane, the condensed formula would be:
CH3 (CH2)6 CH3 ?
or would nit actually be wrote out with c and then the 2 h's around it and so on?
i already did the line and structural for it.

how can u tell which one is more soluble in hexane, CH3(CH2)2OCH2CH3 or CH3(CH2)2COCH2CH3

Amide > Acid > Alcohol > Ketone ~ Aldehyde > Amine > Ester > Ether > Alkane
Ethers are generally less polar than esters, so an ether of similar MW will most likely be more soluble in hexane.

Having the a highly electronegative oxygen atom sticking out from the molecule makes it more polar than the ester, so it dissolves less into non-polar molecules like octane.
