She's decided to have a double mastectomy. Very sad .
I thought she was responding well to the chemo treatments, atleast what I last heard. A very intelligent women who will always be Kelly Bundy in my book. sorry I do not have any links to back this up. I saw the headline in USA Today newspaper. |

I think she made a very wise choice considering the circumstances.
Her mother battled cancer more than once and Christina has the BRCA1 gene making her predisposed to getting cancer herself.
And she didn't have chemo, chemo is a horrible thing to go through and will not guarantee her that it will be gone forever (it's actually more likely that even with the chemo it's gonna come back). So she chose to have her breasts removed to be safe.
I think she's a very brave, admirable and smart woman. Do check out the interview she did about it..

Do check out the interview she did about it.. | It doesn't change anything about her intelligence, and I'm just talking about the limited amount I've seen her. I usually don't follow around celebrity lives (I didn't even know who Hannah Montana was until about 4 days ago) I just think you're reading too much into it.
FYI I'm aware she got both removed after seeing this thread I googled it.

I am a cancer survivor, and I know that the decisions necessary for treatment can be rough. She is a very young woman, and the rest of her life is way more important than a "hot rack."

There are a couple of reasons why she decided to have the double mastecotmy:
1. to lower the chances significantly that the cancer will not return.
2. If the tumor was of a certain size and type, they would need to take some amount of bordering tussie (margins around the tumor), to make sure they get it all. If they need to take a large enough amount, a lumpectomy would not be the way to go.
3. They may have seen evidence in both breasts, and she just wanted to get it all and be done with it.
They may want her to go through chemotherapy, depending or her receptors (estrogen, progestrone) and her "HER2/neu" readings. My wife was a triple negative (estrogen neg, pregestrone neg, HER2/neu neg). Because of those readings, my wife had to do chemo, six treatments, once every three weeks. The drugs they used were what they call TAC (Taxotere, Adriamycin, and Cytaxon), and it was tough going, and made her really sick and wiped her out. She also lost all her hair. Chemo will also cause chemical induced menopause.
My wife finished up her chemo treatments back in April, and is getting her hair back and feeling a lot better. Her last report (last week) was very good...she is in remission and everyting looks great.
If Christina's receptors are different, she may not have to have chemo, and may be able to take a drug called Tamoxifen instead...which is a daily thing...
Either way...let's pray that they get the cancer out of her and she lives a long and happy life.

When you can joke despite the pain, you're moving in a good direction. | Christina is a smart, gifted comic actor, I would expect humor from her.
She is setting a very public example of bravery and resilience in the face of breast cancer; she raising awareness and promoting screening for this often treatable disease.
