The Christmas Bonuses Thread

Sign in to disble this ad
I got the shaft this year. Usually we get some cash (equivalent to about 1/2 of our weekly pay) and a couple gifts - candy and gift cards and what not. This year we got 2 movie passes from AMC theaters and a $10 starbucks gift card. No cash at all! To top it all off, they cancelled the company Christmas party.

Wife got the hook-up, though. $250 cash and a $100 gift card at a nice italian restaraunt, and a huge goodie basket with food and girly perfumes and stuff.

How did you make out this year?

The entire company gets a week pay (through payroll so taxes are taken out) but since I started halfway through the year, I only get 20 hours pay. Still no complaints here.

I got $173 after taxes. Nothing to complain about.

I got my bonus. I'm not going to disclose any amount, but let's just say my boss always treats me very well

I'm pretty sure this is the year of the "bone us".

But simply having a job... is quite nice.

Yea our company basically decided to put our monthly goals out of reach to make sure they could skip our bonuses.
I mean come on... 21% over last years december business is totally reasonable, right? Especially with this great economy and all.

Beat me to it!

I can't complain. I live in Michigan, and I have gainful employment. Not a lot of Michiganians (Michiganders??) can say that these days.

I'll be 13 years on salary at the company I work for this January, and have gotten exactly one bonus that whole time. And it wasn't for Christmas.

That being said, in these current times it's all relative. Come next Monday I'll still have a job to come back to, that I enjoy, that hardly ever takes more than 40 hours a week of my time, does not require me to travel, and covers my family with good benefits. That's a lot more that a lot of people have going for them right now.

I've worked for universities for 30 years - never had a Christmas bonus, never will. But there are reasonable compensating factors. I did get a bonus at the end of the fiscal year once a few years ago - because the funding in our unit is self-generated rather than state money. I darn near fell over. I don't expect it to ever happen again.

No Christmas bonuses offered here. However, we get "pay for performance" bonuses, which last year happened to be just under what I owed the IRS -so they got it back. What a racket.

Not even a contender!! The debate between Michiganian and Michigander has raged for as long as Michigan has been a state. I think they settled on one officially a few years ago, but I'll be damned if I know (or care) what the decision was.

My boss actually hooked me up real nice. I started my new job at the end of September. My boss knew that if he put in for a christmas bonus for me, it would be pro-rated, and I'd only get 1/4 of what it should be, had I worked the full year. So instead, when I first started, he included a signing bonus with the job offer, with the stipulation that it would be paid out after working 90 days. Effectively, he got me a full christmas bonus, equal to about 2 weeks pay. He's a good man.

It was a good year - although, not as ridiculously good as last year. Being a part owner of the company has some advantages.

Trooper - you landed a good one there.

BTW my company just informed us that due to the impending blizzard in these parts, we are going to be closed tomorrow (Dec 24) and everyone who had been scheduled to work will get paid for it. So I guess you could consider that a bonus. Although the people who already put-in for it as a vacation day (and won't get that vacation day back), will probably not be too happy about it.

Got a not too bad bonus, actually as I didn't expect to get any bonus at all,was a very pleasant surprise! Enough to put enough $$ in the gear fund to make final payment on my Dingwall...Yeah! So sometime early 2010 I should be getting a visit from FedEx with my new five string bass...Drool.

I quite in September, but I still got invited to the party and got the bonus, although only 3/4 of it. Plus some company clothes and candy. They even gave something to my girlfriend. They always treated us well.
