Christmas Parties Suck

Sign in to disble this ad
so my wife says to me, "if your gig gets cancelled (outdoor gig during a big cold snap) you're going to the christmas party my friend from work is throwing."

i say, "i'm not going to your christmas party. it's all going to be your friends from work and i won't know anyone and you'll all sit around and talk about work and i won't know what the hell's going on."

she assures me, "oh no, everyone will be bringing their husbands and we won't be talking about work hardly at all."

i protested, "but i still won't know anyone."

"oh, you'll have a great time!"

so my gig gets cancelled, she gets home from work and we go. i get there, and there are all her friends from work, no husbands, they talk shop for most of the 75 minutes i was stuck there, and the host's husband wisely hid out in his bedroom and i never saw him once. during that time, the ladies spoke maybe 10 words to me, then proceeded to ignore me.

so i finally left, and i tried to get my wife to leave with me, but she wanted to stay. so now i have to pick her up in another hour, which will turn into at least 2 hours, probably 3. lucky me, i'll get to drive in the cold at 1 am to pick her up.

yeah, christmas parties suck.

"Their husbands will be there." I'll have to remember that one, thanks for the warning!

sounds about right. we're driving an hour and a half for a christmas party this friday with a group of my wife's friends from college. it will pretty much be the same situation except I can't leave. and I have to drive home so I can't drown my sorrows.

My company's holiday party was suprisingly good, considering it was held in the lobby during work hours. Good food, beer, wine and spirits.

Snow, for the festive feeling

Well, next year take two cars or leave the car and take a cab home, it will be worth the cab fare.

TB on my Smartphone gets me through these "events". If I really want to get out of going somewhere, just use the old standard "I have the poops" ,that usually works.

That guy is a tool for not getting you out of there, grabbing a beer, watching the game, BS'ing, or whatever.

it wasn't a christmas party, but I did have to go through a party where my bowels did some spring cleaning on me, if home wasn't an 8-hour drive away, I would have been there.

The parties that some friends, and particularly significant others, try to make you go to always suck - my ex made me go to some lame christmas party last year, pretty much the same deal except they were all speaking romanian, so I couldn't even participate in a conversation if I tried. I think I stayed a grand total of twenty minutes.

Dodged the bio department's Christmas party from hell, which went on last night. One of my friends who was there said it wasn't as bad as last year since there were fewer people and it ended earlier as a result. However, I went to a "tacky Xmas sweater" party last week and had a blast.
