A Christmas present from Dagmar (the storm) :(

Hi.

As everybody probably already knows, a pretty hefty storm (2 actually) just passed over the Scandinavia.

My condolences for anyone who's lost their health, property or other means of getting by as a result.

It's our third day on generator power, fortunately I had two, the first blew a valve through the head and piston, but it still sucks, especially with the gas prices.

Mobile phones and, oh the horror INTERNET, have been down as well, so not much to do, except to grab the chainsaw and go to the forest.

Only one day without water from the tap, and even though the two remaining stoves we have are very underpowered, enough wamth to get by. Thank god it's unbelievably warm this year, 0 to 5 C compared with the -20 to -30 of last year.

Some of my material posessions weren't as lucky (pics as soon I get to upload them). Our lumber storage shed partially smashed, two spare vans smashed, and my "someday-a-tour-bus-to-be" smashed beyond a feasible repair. By a pretty big Picea abies (European spruce) that will perhaps someday make a nice top for an acoustic bass .
The majority of it will however be providing heat to us next winter.

How did the storm treat You?

Regards
Sam

There's no such thing as underpowering!!!!!

Jokes aside, I'm sorry to hear about the damage from the fallen tree, and the other difficulties. Please keep us posted on how you are doing, and how the region is affected.

Oh, but it must be true, the good folks at JBL even wrote a paper on it .

Thanks for the heads up bongomania.

Those of us living in the more remoted areas are reasonably well equipped to handle such "inconveniences". All the farmers have generators to keep the livestock alive, maintained wells and such, even though our power grid and water supply network has been performing very well.
The forest owners are the main problem with the electrical problems, since all the ~20KV and smaller power lines run well below the tree-tops, and they plain refuse to cut the safety margins to reasonable distance from the lines. Fortunately the power companies are now beginning to use underground cables, but given our geography and geological history, it's hellishly expensive.

I have had to refuse some work opportunities (not music related ) this week, because I have to keep the home-fires going while the missus is at work.

Regards
Sam
