Cigarette Smokers, a survey/question

I don't want to start any sort of political thread or arguing smoking or arguing smoking bans or any of that. Take that to one of the other 45 smoking-related threads. This one is just to appease my curiosity in this matter.

I'm turning 18 in a few days, and a lot of my (mostly female, for some reason) friends who have already turned 18 and a lot of them who are soon turning 18 told me they did/plan on buying a "legal pack" and then just throwing it away or giving it to another friend who smokes or something.

This lead me to wonder how many people actually start smoking after they're 18 (don't know/doubt that was always the age, but for this argument's sake lets say it is) and how many, as I guess, started younger and continued once it got easier after they were 18.

And FWIW, I'm not doing the "Legal pack" thing. I've done plenty of "illegal packs" and stopped for good.

Started before 18, still do it (im still 17).

I don't see my rate of consumption going up when I turn 18, though. I don't smoke that much, a pack will usually last me over a week.

I started after I was 18, but it had nothing to do with the fact that I'd turned 18.

I started before I was 18 and stopped after I was 18. But you have to be 19 to buy cigarettes. I stopped before I was 19.

From my friends that started under 18 and went up, they usually say the freedom to buy it anywhere instead of the one store that caters to all minors who want to buy illegal stuff made them up their usage.

Well, currently I only get my cigarettes from other people. I've never bought a pack myself.

The thing that really determines how much I smoke is the occasions I get to do it. My consumption may go up when I move out of my parent's house, and thus have more opportunities to light up. As of now, though, I feel that it will stay the same.

I started before I was 18, then bought my first legal pack as soon as I could.
