City Hub for Posting Flyers - What's it Called?

Sign in to disble this ad
this is kind of a stupid question but i don't know the correct terminology for what i'm trying to ask. usually certain big cities have like an area to post/paste flyers like a big cylindrical light post without the lights. i've seen em in phoenix, austin, asheville, denver, etc. it's not like it's just any type of light post, electrical box or side of a building. it's a designated area where artists can post up events whether it be for music, diy stuff, or general art. anyways, what are these areas called or specifically that fixture/post thing where people paste up all the stuff? i ask because i'd like to know so that i can conjure up some people and propose to the city i live in to have one of these fixtures and thus the city will be happy to minimize the amount of unwanted flyers pasted in so many unwanted places. thanks!

i thought kiosk's were little customer service places either run by a machine or one customer rep. but i've been known to be wrong many a time! perhaps it's different in each geographic location

Kiosk. But we also call the other one a kiosk as well. Go figure.

Around here, yeah. There's one right next to town hall, and the use of it was distributed between different art happenings that wanted to post flyers there.

After doing that, set up a video camera focused on the kiosk and watch 99% of the people who walk by it ignore it

This one sent me to (gasp) Wikipedia. Apparently a kiosk was originally a sort of garden pavilion in the Ottoman Empire. From there the meaning broadened to any small roofed outdoor structure, so it can be anything from an information desk to a newsstand to, yes, these cylindrical flyer-posting thingies.
