classified sellers, anyone relate?

Sign in to disble this ad
who can relate to this little rant I just didn't post in my thread:

say what you mean and mean what you say

or don't bother.

I'm not a store, I'm a brokea$$ musician like a lot of people here.

I'm honest and I communicate.

I understand the need to ask for a "hold" so you can get your finances in order to buy something.

but...

be honest and communicate.

say what you mean and mean what you say.

answer pm's.

realize when you log in it's in your profile as activity with a time and date, so not communicating is even more evident.

realize I'm probably over-reacting, but remember the brokea$$ musician part?

realize I'm eating shipping, packing and paypal fees a lot of times. your super lowball offers are super ridiculous.

and my favorite:

realize that the [insert gear here] you just linked with your lowball offer from ebay is actually more than I'm asking for mine.

Every time I "held" something for a buyer on tb classifieds, they flaked. Money talks, BS walks.

I've had nothing but great transactions with the fine TB folks. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Only had one transaction on tb and I was on the buying end, but nothing could have been smoother. MUCH better than my only experience with eBay .

Same here. I've held items for an agreed amount of time and never had a problem. I've also taken multiple payments, shipping the bass before the final one was made. I've also had people hold basses for me until I could get home or get my wife to send PP. Never a problem. My only caution is dealing with no or very few feedback members and I've opted not to do business with them based only on how they replied to PM questions.

I haven't had any problems selling stuff, although I'd usually get some annoying low-ball offers. If I were willing to sell it for half of my asking price, that would be my asking price!

I don't mind low ball offers. It gives me a chance to show off my charm when I reply

i've had a few potential buyers actually contact me and gripe because someone didn't hold something for them.

i gently reminded them that this is a transaction between individuals, not a store, and as such nobody is required, or should be, to even consider holding.

i'm thinking of adding a notice to that effect to the classifieds effect, something specific and clear in wording, directed at potential buyers that there should be no expectation of any holding of items by any seller.

I thought about that, but with 50% of the words spelled wrong (perhaps in text speak), I thought it would be well over their heads.

I wouldn't EXPECT anyone to do it besides, maybe, people I've dealt with in the past or extended the same favor to. IMHO, feedback points plays an important roll. If someone with 30+ feedback points asks me to hold a bass for a week, I have no problem doing it. I know of cases where people shoud have taken the hold offer because their bass never sold even after the requested hold time.

LOL!!

I've actually posted LOOKING for some lowball offers. The boards have been slow as heck lately. I have bases that I'd rather see go to a good home than jam up my office, preventing me from making another gasious purchase

I hear ya. Getting married, so I'm not allowed to be as excessive as I once was. Kinda sorta 1 in, 1 out type of rule. Kinda debating selling a few, but not until I have to. Perhaps income tax refund time might be alright.

I really lost my interest in the high end customs. My favorite basses now are 80's Japan Squires or other Japanese clones from that era. I also love the 80's Yamaha neckthru BB's. None of which are HUGE expences. My problem is space. In that regard, I'm in the one in, one out boat myself. If I give my wife hell over here bird and other pet stuff, she brings up my bass collection

My pet peeve on the classifieds is sellers who don't return PMs. Don't like my (usually reasonable) offer? Either reply "no thanks" or make me a counter offer. Ignoring me is rude.

That's fair enough.

A long time ago, my wife questioned why I needed another bass. I asked her why she needed another pair of black pumps. She doesn't question my gear purchases any more.

My wife gave up on things coming in and out of the house. Between custom knives, guns, RC Helis, Harley parts, fishing gear, etc., she just cannot keep up. The problem with my basses is they jam up the office and take up needed space. Then I start complaining about needing a bigger office Basically we both buy what we want until we've collected too much STUFF

My pet peave is that paying Gold Members can only post 2 pics per post. What HECK is up with that?? I end up making 3 posts to get all the pics in. Come ON TB

I had one problem with a seller and communication would have resolved any conflicts. I paid in a timely manner but updates from him were dragged out and he kept putting off shipping (I'll ship it tomorrow, a few days later same reply). After an extended period of not hearing from him I created a trouble ticket with PayPal and engaged a mod here on the TB forums. The next day the amp arrived. I dropped the ticket of course but it never would have happened with good communication. Other than that all transactions here have been good. So far...

I`ve had a lot of luck. Good communication, fast payments, fast shipments, but like you said I do expect a person to be straight forward and honest. If you can`t live up to your end of the agreement then just tell me and I`ll say thank you for your time and for saving me some.

I've had nothing but good transactions here. Holding is dumb. Either you have the money or you don't. I wouldn't expect anyone to hold anything for me if I was a buyer, and I'm not holding anything for anyone if I'm a seller.
