Those planes could actually be quite far appart. The angle and the unknown relative sizes of the planes makes determining the distance between them very difficult.

In essence, it's a trick of perspective.

Actually based on a few visual clues, I can identify both aircraft as Boeing 737's. The closer one is an early smaller version (-200 or -300 at best), the one further away is a newer version (can't be certain, but it's a -800 or -900 at a guess, which is a fairly large-ish critter).

However, you are correct in either event, that's a perspective issue, those aircraft are not THAT close in the photo.

Well, good for you

What I meant was that the relative size of the planes was not immediately obvioue to me

Hey, I'm an airplane geek, sorry!

Dad always told me my first word wasn't "mommy" or "daddy" it was "AIRPLANE!"....I'm far too into the things, and don't even hold a pilot's license!
