Coffee drinkers. Do you wash your favorite mug?

Sign in to disble this ad
My wife thinks it's disgusting but I NEVER wash my coffee mug. I only drink black coffee so I find nothing unsanitary about drinking my joe and then rinsing the cup afterward (it's my personal cup). I like the dark stain that builds up inside the cup and I feel that it adds to the flavor (like that old iron skillet that grandma has). I get pretty irritated when my cup gets "accidentally" washed because it seems to take away a lot from the morning joe experience and it will take months to build the stain up again.

Am I just weird or are there others out there who like their fave cup rinsed but not washed?

That's nasty. I wash everything that I eat or drink out of, with both soap and water.

If having old coffee built up in your cup makes your coffee taste better then you need to get better coffee. It's a coffee cup, not a greasy old skillet.

I do handwash my favorite cappuccino mug most days but I use a sponge and soap.

I don't go out of my way to not wash mugs, but if it's a coffee mug on my desk I'll reuse it for a while and just give a quick rinse each time.

you don't *find* it to be unsanitary? You periodically lab-test your coffee mug? Dude just swish it around with your fingers in the water...use a sprayer...dry it and save it for tomorrow. If you keep on looking for germs some day you'll find them.

Define washing. Scrubbing? Soap? Dishwasher?

If you rinse and scrub everything you cook and eat with immediately after, soap is a luxury and not a necessity, depending - of course - on your cooking methods.

Wrought-iron skillets, woks, frying pans, and metal grilles can steam clean themselves if kept hot and doused with or scrubbed with a brush dipped in hot water just after cooking (and/or before when it comes to prepping a BBQ/Grille for cooking)

Vegetable water, sauces, casseroles, etc. are a different story.

I think that you're a weirdo for having to ask us if it's alright that you are trying to build patina on your coffee mug.

Get better coffee and swish the thing out with your hands.

For the record, 'Greasy old skillets' are the best things to cook with provided the grease is applied after it steams itself clean and is wiped out properly.

My fingers? That will be nasty. I use my pen

What's better coffee? I don't do designer stuff. Only Mac users and metrosexuals drink that goo. I like bulk Navy coffee in the 5 pound can ESPECIALLY when it's about 24 hours old

In addition to the coffee, there may be a bunch of minerals and chemicals like lead and chlorine from the water that are also bonding with the brown stain.

But, you're already retarded, so it probably won't do much more harm.

I usually just rinse it with water, and it gets an occasional wash with detergent and water maybe once a week.

So how does washing the cup prevent ingestion of "lead and chlorine from the water" smarty pants?
