So I got to wondering a little after replying to another thread partially in jest but not quite... and I found that during the day I will consume on average a gallon of black coffee. This is filter-drip style, so quite strong. I also have a tendency to down one or two cans of Red Bull on top of this.
Yet, I sleep at least 6 hours a night. Now this either means that my caffeine tolerance has reached a level where I'm pretty sure there's not all that much blood left in my caffeine-stream, or I'm approaching the point of actually overdosing on caffeine, which for all intents and purposes would suck but yet would be sort of cool in that "holy crap man what the hell did you do" way.
Just sort of wanted to put that out there :P

I actually thought of this song today and I really enjoy it, and drink a lot of black coffee. I tend to get in the same situation as you but I gradually back off it and allow caffeine to regain it's effectiveness.

People will get edgy without coffee, yet it is acceptable to keep people boosted on this stuff. Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts are ALL over.... There is probably a Starbucks inside a Starbucks....
Just saying

Funny, I went to Walmart and I loaded up on Coffee since they have the best prices. The checkout lady said "you bought a lot of coffee", I laughed........great topic, gotta go and have another cup of joe............. |

Those links are hilarious And @bassteban, they still know how to do a good cup of joe down here. Couple of those and you can hear your eyeballs moving in your head...
My wonderings mostly started since my friends have recently started commenting on my coffee intake, and I have been told by one of my clients (where I show up in their office to do some work, and have a "drink whatever you want" thing going) that I need to cut down on my coffee drinking since I consume in a day what lasts 10 people a week.
Coincidentally there was this local artist (Mbah Surip, if you want to know) who spent his entire life basically drinking as much coffee as I do, and keeled over dead when instead of coffee he started drinking water. Makes you wonder if consuming so much caffeine just makes your brain move so fast it stays ahead of the "hey, psst... you're dead mate!" signal.

Just saying | I used to smoke pot (I'm Dutch, give me a break :P) but stopped that, and these days my drugs are nicotine and caffeine in somewhat equal proportions.
Thing with me is, without coffee, I don't get edgy, I just plain out don't function at all. People often joke they run on coffee, for me it's the truth, I literally run on the stuff.

Not that I don't appreciate them, but it's just not going to happen. So, to potentially nip a couple of things right in the bud (no no no not the pot, not the pot) - I want to avoid a raging discussion about who's picking up the tab on my healthcare when I'm old and grey, or the effects of secondhand smoke, or the usual polarised debate on why smoking is worse than murder, to name but a few.
Instead, this thread should be dedicated to coffee in all it's ... uh.. shapes... and.. sizes, or however you'd quantify that for coffee.

If it's just a habit of drinking something warm, how about brewing a big pot of black tea and sipping on that? It's half the caffeine, but should still give you your fix if you consume a gallon per day
At those amounts, I dread a day when you have to go without

When she involuntarily cut back (she started a job where she couldn't drink between breaks, and only got three breaks during the 8 hours she was at work) she got massive headaches on the order of migraines. Went to see her doctor, who told her the headaches were symptoms of caffeine withdrawal!
One of my roommates in college used to drink Jolt Cola by the 2 liter bottle when cramming for tests, etc. I'm not sure they even make Jolt anymore, but it had something like three or four times the amount of caffeine as normal cola. Guess Red Bull is somewhat similar.
Me, I'm addicted to tea, strong and black with a touch of sugar, hot tea in the winter and iced in the summer. Believe me, you can definately get a caffeine rush from tea as well as coffee. In fact, if I drink too much tea, my heart starts to race, etc. Just like people who overdose on coffee.
