Cold/sickness Remedies?

Sign in to disble this ad
So, I have been blessed with some amazing sinuses, that as soon as I'm in a smoky environment, my nose decides to start draining mucus like there is no tomorrow. That turns into a scratchy throat, which turns into congested sinuses, and my voice gets all nasally.
So my question is, what do you guys do for this type of stuff?
I'm washing my nose out with a warm water and sodium bicarbonate solution (This stuff really helps), Nasacort (steroid nose spray) and musanex D (Decongestant, loosens up mucus, and relieves pressure of the sinuses), and then a steam shower once or twice a day.

So that's what I do, it doesn't work very fast, but it works. Might take a week to make me all better. What do you guys do and how fast does this work? I have finals this week so the sooner I feel good the better!

Afrin can work pretty amazingly, but do NOT use it for more than a day or two consecutively since you can have rebound side effects if you use it for too long.

I also use snore strips to keep the sinuses open.

Puffs plus with Vicks helps, too.

Herbal tea, for sure.

And later on, 4 words: lemon ginger hot toddy. A bartender got me hip to that - made it with fresh cut ginger, fresh squeezed lemon, HOT tea and a bit of Irish whiskey. Oh, and of course don't forget the honey. Now I look forward to cold season.

Well you can leave the whiskey out. The other ingredients done right will still flip your wig.

I'm not a big health nut but the herbal tea thing is a permanent part of my morning ritual. I'm sure it's helped me dodge a few bugs. When I do catch one, it really helps with the symptoms and the cause IME.

I usually just drink an ass load of tea. Doesn't really do anything to abate the cold, but it makes me feel better.

Cut up some ginger, bring a pot of water to boil on the stove, drop in the ginger, and breathe in the steam. Some folks will put a towel over their head to help trap in some of the steam.

Don't get your face too close to the pot or you'll burn yourself.

+1 on herbal tea. Not sure if it really works or not, but it seems to.
