It's bad enough here in south Oregon! Everybody surfs in a wet suit!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHtif3ciX7w

I don't surf. But I will ask what do ppl look for in a wave? I see days with little rollers and ppl just flock to the surf spot. On other days I see big roller waves and the place is empty.

I asked a guy once "Don't you guys like the big waves - like on the old ABC Wide World of Sports?" where Mike Doyle is riding these monsters.
The guy got visibly upset, almost angry. I said I don't mean to be a wiseguy - I honestly don't know. No answer.

Yeah these waves are WAY too dribbly for that kind of dedication. I've seen some amazing stuff off of iceburgs in Alaska. I'd consider those waves. Not these.

Surfing is not a midwestern hobby...hell its not even an East Coast hobby (I laugh at people who think they are gonna surf in Jersey, on a massive 2 foot wave*) and its certainly not a winter sport....Yeah those people are nuts.

*note:I'm not saying it can't be done or that there isn't the occasional good surf day, but its like comparing Skiing in PA to skiing in Colorado.

Sebastian Inlet, FL

I've seen 8-10 glassy there on a GOOD day, an average day is more in the 4-6 range....there IS surf on the east coast.

Yeah Sebastian Inlet can get really really good. It's always been a dream of mine to track a hurricane up the East coast. Starting in Florida, ending somewhere in New York, most likely Long Island.

I am going to ignore the fact that I got thrown under the bus with the maki-ism remark in the other thread. I think my monkey picture stated my feelings perfectly.
