Collectors - what do you collect?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been collecting bottle caps since I was about 6 or 7 years old. I mounted some of my favourites in a picture frame last week, there are quite a few caps in there that have changed design or are from beers that no longer exist. Just thought I'd share. Oh and I only collect BEER caps. No chick drink/lolly water caps.

So, what do you guys collect?

P.S: Sorry for the fuzzy photos and glare.

I've had a number of collections over the years: foreign coins, knives, bongo drums, burlesque memorabilia, prob. some other stuff I'm forgetting ATM. The coins are long gone, I sold all but one of my knives years ago, I'm down to three sets of bongos, the burlesque stuff is packed away in trunks. I sort of collect compressors, but I have to turn most of them over in order to pay for the next ones in the door. I probably have no more than five or six at one time, and since few are long-term possessions they don't really rank as real "collection" in the same sense as your bottlecaps.

I collect and hybridize Hosta - about 250 varieties.
I have every issue of Spy magazine.
I used to collect beer cans. Sold most of them years ago. Still have about 200 in boxes in the basement.
I have a small collection of Basses.

I've almost got enough to say i collect basses. 4 music mans and 3 tom clements, plus about 4 or 5 other ones. but i know guys that have 20+ basses, so that's what i think being a collector of basses is, when you just have a rediculous amount of them.

i used to collect beer cans and bottles, but that's only because i was too lazy to throw them out at the time.

Baseball Cards. My favourite is a hologram card of Carlton Fisk hitting that famous home run in the 1975 world series. Another one I like is one with Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire, and Terry Stienbach. Then there's Pete Rose on the Phillies. I used to have Tim Wakefield on the Pirates as a first baseman, but I haven't seen that in a long time.

Anime figurines, plus all other sorts of anime stuff and glass pop bottles or non pop too, used to collect knives. Also not really a collection but my Dad use to work for AMD and he would get to bring home little failed prototypes as a keepsake, have a good 40ish or so.

CDs - about 4000 of them at last count
LPs - about 2000 of them at last count
movies - about 1000 of them at last count
dragon statues - about 20 of them
tattoos - 18
knives/swords
Tarot decks
Danelectro effects pedals
books

I've got a version of OCD that results in compulsive collecting of random things though, so that's only the tip of the iceburg.

I have a pretty large collection of sports cards. Mainly hockey, and mostly cards from within the past 20 years. It's basically a shared collection with my brother since we have so many and don't know whose cards are whose. My favorite is probably the 1984 Topps John Elway rookie. While not worth a whole lot (maybe 100 bucks to the right collector), I enjoy finding big name player's rookie cards, plus that card plus a thousand or so others only cost around $5 at an auction (pre-Ebay).

I also have a small comic book collection, some Star Trek collectibles, and obviously cds/lps/dvds.

My little Zippo collection. Top left my favorite, and what im currently using. The iron cross lighters a cheappo, chinese made sleeve with Zippo guts.

With the acception of top left, they were all given to me. The chrome/black, and copper Zippos had bad hinges, and were send to Zippo for repair. They came back with hindges that were better then new, and brand new guts. Awsome job Zippo.

Handguns. About twenty-five not counting my wifes collection. Consists of Smith & Wesson and Ruger revolvers; Colt, Beretta and Browning semi-automatics. My wife, who is now retired, owned a gun shop for over thirty years and at one time had over 6000 firearms. Used to sell to Hank, Jr., Clint Smith of Thunder Ranch and others....

I'm too poor to have any kind of serious collection, but my dad has an impressive collection of Pez dispensers (about 5-600.) I have a picture somewhere but I'm still looking for it...
