Columbia House closes its doors (at least in Canada).

Calling the CD an "obsolete media." The CD has plenty of life left in it, but I'd call the CH pitch to be itself obsolete & the cause of this.

Wow. took them long enough. They had not sustained a viable business model for about 10 years now.

i dunno....the guy at the local "hard to find","out of print" record store is of the opinion that the cd is on the way out.....if you go on amazon you will note that titles are disappearing into the "no longer in print" void, and a lot of them are titles you would expect to find anytime.... downloads are the way of the future, and what i see is a lot of folks storing their cds into digital memory and using their computers as players....then selling off their discs.....

Download music song by song? This emphasizes the possibility of a multitude of bands becoming one hit wonders, if that...

People still buy way more CD albums over digital albums (downloaded).

CD's aren't dead yet, although Columbia has failed at competing in recent years, both before/after the 'big name' recording music industry hit the skids in 2007-08.

not dead, but on the critical list.....watch some kid with an i pod some time......listen to 30 seconds, switch, 30 seconds,switch.....and the desire for more titles trumps sound quality every time,so they reduce cd bits to mp3 ....tho' there seems to be a niche market out there for audiophiles,cd/vinyl collectors etc....

Instant gratification, and less than 30 second attention span...I want to hire that guy, give him a job application!
