Coming to the Bay Area, what's the go?!

Hey,

I'm heading over to San Francisco from good ol' New Zealand in a few days for a couple of weeks work/travel. Staying down at Stanford.

Where're the tunes at? Good bars etc etc?

Pretty keen for some good electronica but also want to find some live music venues where I can hear some good groove based music and drink and yarn rubbish to strangers.

Suggestions would be wicked....

Also, do trains run back to Stanford in the early hours of the morning - like is it possible (and safe?) to go out till 3 or 4 in the morning and then get back down?
