Computer Virus Please Help!

Sign in to disble this ad
Whats up guys? Anyone good with computers? Right now I have a virus called spyware guard 2008 that tells me i have a bunch of other viruses and i need to pay it to get rid of them. Its terrible, and it wont let me download real virus protection programs or even go to sites that have info on it, it just redirects me to something else.

So I cant find out how to get rid of it..

can anyone help me? Or maybe google how to get rid it cause i cant?

thanks

Try starting your computer up in safe mode, and see if it will let you access the internet and find a fix then.

Restart the computer, and tap F8 until a menu comes up that lets you choose between a few windows boot options. I think the one you want will be something like "Safe Mode with Networking". I'm assuming you have XP, but I imagine the process is the same for Vista.

Do you have tools like AdAware, HijackThis, etc? Do you have an antivirus program, like Avast or AVG?

Hi! You have a version of Smitfraud. I've removed it from 4 + machines in our District over the last 3 months.

All you need is here:

I thought I had avg. But now it wont even let me get to an avg site, it just redirects me or says page load error. Same with the smitfraud site. I'll try the safe mode restart deal.
thanks for the help!

Does that virus do a fake scan in your browser?
An HTML page that pretends to be you "My Computer" and is doing a scan?
And afterwards a popup that is masked as your systems window?

Not sure if yours is the same thing I discovered on my dads computer... but here is what I did:

Disengage your internet connection first.
Open your webbrowser, go to options (or internet option or whatever it's called on your browser) and erase all internet history, temp files, cookies and startpage.

Then open your configuration screen, and open Software (a list of all installed programs on your computer).
Find out what doesn't belong there, the virus may have installed a masked anti-virus program.
Delete it if you found such a fraud program.

If it's the same kind of virus as I got rid of my dads computer this will work.

Although I'm not an expert and I can't figure out how it got on my dads computer.
(All I know my dad is clumsy and he may have clicked stuff that are obvious sour links.)

Start in Safe Mode, open your internet browser, get this: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

You can download it for free. Let it scan and do it's thing.

Plugging in just to see if any of this stuff works. Any viruses I've ever gotten pretty much meant the end of my hardrive or computer. Is there hope after infection?

Hi Miles.... after you gotten control of your browser again, you should download and install 'AdAware' . . . Also to fix your dad's damaged registry you also better download/install "CCleaner" . . That ulility will locate all those lousy registry keys.. Then CCleaner will ask you if you want to delete them.. It will work out.

Hmm, that's odd. Maybe the virus is blocking safe mode?

Go to Start -> Control panel -> User accounts -> Change the way users log on and off. Uncheck both boxes and re-boot. Log in as administrator.
