The concert thread got me thinking about some of the shows I've seen. I remembered some that were awesome and some that were terrible. And of course, some I'm ashamed of. So I'll put myself out there for clowning...I saw Poison.
I never liked them and wasn't a fan. As a matter of fact, I was extremely metal in those days. (Slayer, Metallica, Death Angel, Maiden, Anthrax, etc.). But my best friend, Scott, was into the glam crap that polluted the airwaves back then.
Anyway, Scott and his g/f and like twenty chicks were going to the Poison concert. Scott was literally the only guy in a very large group of people. They wanted me to go. I refused. They were persistent. I was also persistent. Then I tried the old, "I can't afford a ticket." (we were kids so no money was a valid excuse). To this, Scott produced an extra ticket that he had purchased already, assuming he could get me to go.
It was right about that time that I started noticing the guy/girl ratio. Plus it didn't hurt that I was 14 and many of the girls were already 15 and some even 16!
So I caved and went to the show. It was lame and terrible, musically speaking. But I did manage to makeout with and grope some chick for a couple hours. And at 14, that was pretty awesome.
So that's the concert I'm a little ashamed of. What's yours?

I liked it...........

Back in 2001-2003, they put on a great show and were a lot of fun. |

Also I saw The Fifth Dimention on what was probably their last tour. McCoo and Davis had left and the majority of the show was someone just reading some really angry poetry.
Oh yea... Jethro Tull. Ian Anderson chewed out and swore at the audience for talking during one of his solos. Great music, but a low point in entertainment.

I was in town for the night, bought a ticket. He had a horrible
night, I have never seen him do such a crappy show. By 'half-
time' it was so painful I left. This from a guy who worshipped
all the Bluesbreakers and Mayall stuff, and even the 461
Ocean Blvd stuff.
1975. Providence Civic Center. CAT STEVENS. Yeah, there
was a date with a Babe involved. He put on a good show if
you like irritating chick oriented fingerstyle acoustic crooners.
Being a hard@$$ rock'n'roll and blues guy, I really had to work
hard to keep the vomit down.
I got her back by taking her to see Johnny Winter And at
the Music Hall in Boston.

Yes there was a girl involved. At one point he actually brought out a second mic stand with a single flower in it and sang to the flower.

My roommate, who's a good buddy but a big Smiths and Morrisey fan, knocks on my door with a couple of tickets. He says that he bought us tickets for a show, his treat. So I was game.
First of all Cranberries was just utter garbage. Over the top feigning emotion and people tossing her flowers. Ugh. Really fn lame, not to mention a bad band. Bass player was just phoning it in. The Suede came on and it was a bunch of passive-aggressive effeminate posturing and then the guitarist would step up and do a solo that was very mediocre at best, look up for applause and adoration and then step back. Lame lame lame. It was at the Santa Monica civic center. I remember leaving and walking like five blocks until I found a bar and promptly began drinking. I left my roommate there, and then ended up hooking up with a fat chick. I took my frustration out on her, and then made her drive me home when I was done at four in the morning. I have still never forgiven him for that. |

I've seen Poison a few times, and also Slaughter, Quiet Riot (R.I.P. Kevin Dubrow), Firehouse, Cinderella, Ratt (R.I.P Robbin Crosby), Crue, David Lee Roth, Whitesnake, Good Charlotte, Queensryche, Disturbed, Suicidal Tendencies, SOAD, Ozzy, Tool, DMB, Boston (R.I.P Brad Delp) James Taylor, Rod Stewart, Kathy Mattea, David Lee Murphy, and so on and so on. Not ashamed of a single one of 'em!
I look at it as an opportunity to see a live act who have obviously (and for whatever reason) made it. I take advantage of those opportunities, man!
