Congress wants to sensor web

Didnt look to see if there is already a thread started on this. This sounds serious. Even on the google search engine there is a petition you can click on and "sign". I did not do it because I am on my work computer. So what is getting censored adult sites, spam, pop ups?

I thought about making a thread, but TB is generally strictly no-politics.

Without getting too political, just trying to inform: Censor everything, filter the internet, give 'them' the ability to choose what you can and cannot do or see.

Mainly aimed at the idea of stopping 'piracy' and copyright infringement. Personally I believe it is completely insane, I'll refrain from going any further as I would be getting entirely too political.

Check out the info on Wikipedia. Go to any page you want, it is blacked out in protest, but you can still read up on the issue following the link that is shown.

It's just a protest against the pricks in congress who want to stop piracy (music, film, etc.) by choosing to censor out some web sources altogether. The protest is basically if they start censoring some key uses on the internet, then what else is next?

This is a link to Freenet.org I am surprised it hasn't been shut down yet. I have had it on my computer in the past but it is not for everyone....

Exactly. They have been trying to get a filter on the internet here in Australia for a good while now, claiming that it will be filtering only Child Pornography. The "blacklist" of sites to be blocked (currently optional, however they are working on getting all ISPs to intergrate it permanently) was leaked a while back, the plan was to have it remain highly classified (suspicious much?). It contained not only hundreds of standard pornography websites containing no child pornography, but things such as youtube videos, image boards, and even several websites belonging to small business owners. Just shows how easily a system like this can become corrupted, and it wasn't even in operation yet.

If you go to wikipedia, you can find contact info for your representatives. Tell them to protect free and open internet; oppose SOPA/PIPA.
