Ever since I was 17 ive needed my bottom 2 wisdom teeth pulled. I am now 27 and they are starting to decay, due to impaction. I'd actually rather let them rot out but I need to take better care of myself. I'd say my biggets fear is dry socket, which leads to pain, which typically leads to a panic attack, and im just be pretty big wuss. I discussed this with a speicalist and based on my medical history the extraction will be performed under general anithesia, should I make the choice. Half of me wants to get the teeth removed but chronic panic disorder, and dry socket seem to be the biggest two obstacles. Im sure theres a large number of TB'ers that have had the procedure adn can probaly knock some sense into me.

You will only go through a few days of misery where you can't eat normal food but there are ways around it. You don't have to care for them that much (Well, I didn't) to not get dry socket.
They are a pain (As in annoying) just after you get them out but after they have healed up a bit things get better pretty quickly. |

My friend just got them out, he took a couple days off from school and was fine. You don't want rotting stuff in your mouth, do you? That's gross and will probably start being painful long term. Have them pulled and avoid your mouth turning into a compost.

| | | | Hi,
Dental decay can cause problems including something called epidelimytus (not sure of the spelling) it is an infection in "the male parts" which can apparently be really painful. It is a good idea to have the teeth removed before something like this could start. I'm not a doctor, so I stand to be corrected, but a relative of mine had this and he said it wasn't funny at all.
I've had my wisdom teeth out earlier this year, and it wasn't bad, it hurt a little the first couple of hours after the op, but the painkillers sort that out. The rad bit is you get to eat ice cream and jelly and yogurt!
Get it done otherwise, you'll have to get you teeth sorted and maybe other stuff also... |

I'd much rather get them out than have anything happen to my man bits |

It's a really quick job and doesn't hurt at all. You have to be careful when eating for the next day or two, but that's about it. I waited a bit too with mine because some people who have had theirs surgically removed (30 years ago) said it is nasty and painful. After my first operation my reaction was pretty much "was that it?" |

Apart from not being able to really eat anything that requires lots of chewing for a few days, you get a nice supply of painkillers (like Vicodin) that can be sold if you're able to tough it out |

I think the absolute worst part of my experience was having a swollen face for a couple days, but that's it |

Hurt like hell. I had a friend who was working off his college debt by working in a public clinic. Since we were there on the sly we could not use any drugs. Started drinking a fifth of bourbon before, during and finished it after. The hang-over was worse than the pain from the tooth extraction. The noise I heard in my head while he was yanking it was also worse than the pain.

You should have had those suckers pulled a *long* time ago--you're just setting yourself up for much worse pain in the future. When I got all four of my wisdom teeth out, it was just before I turned 21, and the doctor said I was getting them out just in time. According to him, in your early 20s something happens to your bone structure, and once that occurs, it makes healing from the procedure much more difficult, and increases the likelihood of complications.
The longer you wait, the worse it's going to get. Get them out *now*.
As for the procedure itself, it isn't bad at all. The drugs were quite trippy. Just get some vicodin and soft foods to eat, and I'm sure you'll be fine

So I blame her for putting me through all this extra pain.... for the past two years my upper right one has been killing me. It's already coming out and i can't even really open my mouth. So Yeah I'm looking forward to finally knowing whtat its like to have my mouth constatly hurting... You need to get those out as soon as you can before you end up like me.

What you DON'T want is for them to rot away, and cause a huge infection in your jaw. That could lead to all sorts of complications and bad stuff. Much worse than the short term pain of dealing with it now.

I woke up with an abscess the size of a tennis ball (no exaggeration) in the side of my jaw. Had to go for an emergency extraction. The swelling was so bad that it blocked the blood vessels carrying the anesthetic to the jaw - nine ampules of Novocain later I was still screaming as they broke pieces of the tooth off.
Was still spitting out bits of bone/tooth fragment that had got buried in my gums weeks later.
Don't blow it off, get them done now.
