so today at my my school, we had a holocaust survivor come and speak to us. he was a jewish man from poland who was taken to auswitch camp at the age of 16. he lost his whole family and had a very sad story to tell. it was a very interesting presentation, he showed us his number that was tatooed on his arm, and had many pictures that we viewed as well. he told us that we lived in heaven, and that we dont know what fear and pain is, and that he hoped we never found out. he said rise against evil, and teach love and compassion and never let anything like this happen again.

needless to say, at the end of the presentation, i shook his hand and told him how very appreciative i was of his to come and speak to us.

V.

If he was placed in the camps around 1942 at age 16 that makes him 84. In 10 years the amount of living Holocaust survivors will drastically decrease. Imagine an entire population of kids that will never receive these speeches.

When I was in middle school a holocaust survivor came in and talked to us about that whole thing. I don't remember much but I do remember it being very sad. It was an old lady in a wheelchair.

Can you imagine how hard it must be to live with his memories? He must be a heck of a man to open up to people about what he went through. Luckily (hopefully) none of us will have to go through his agony.

That is the coolest story I've read all day.

I'm reminded of the George Santayana quote "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

We had a woman speak at our uni one time. Truly awe inspiring to hear their stories.

As I was reading this thread I was thinking the same thing. These Holocaust survivors that open up and tell people of their experiences have a reserve of courage that I know I don't have. Or that I pray I never have to have. God bless them.

A man came to my high school when I was there and had the exact same presentation. Where are you? The chances these 2 individuals were the same person is better than you'd think. Needless to say, never in a school-wide assembly had the students ever paid more attention to the speaker than that day. And rightfully so.

We had 1 man come to our middle school 2 years ago, i talked with him after the presentation for a while (actually missed the whole rest of the school day) and it was amazing. He was such a nice guy. and i unfortunatly had to apologise for some disrespect of some students.
With some of the people i know, im worried about the future of the world.

Remember the things he taught you and do your best to teach others about the terrible atrocities that humans are able to enact on one another. In a few years, there will be no more Holocaust survivors and it will be up to all of us to make sure that their suffering is never forgotten.

Being Jewish, I have have been to a lot of Holocaust things, some with survivors, some with out. All are very special because most of them without the survivors have artifacts, and that really hits you, but when there is a person there and he shows you the stuff they did, that's the worst. I usually come out near tears.
